What's the actual HP of the Super Tiger 3000, and what does it compare to in a Gasser

I've gone entirely to gasoline now, but for a while I had two ST3000's, and I cannot say anything bad about these engines other than they used a lot of fuel. They started easily by hand, idled well,...

Taurus 3.2 final set up. I Did a great job guys?

Nice packaging job! The only thing I would change would be to raise the battery pack a little bit to get it away from the muffler heat as much as possible.

Need engine recommendations please!

Since you've decided not to use the larger engine, this information is kinda moot, but nevertheless here it is. The Brison 3.2 is 5.359 inches from the rear mount face to the prop hub face. Height...

Need engine recommendations please!

You could try something in the 3.2 size class, like a Brison or a Fox. These should be able to swing a 24 X 8 prop. Normally they are happy with a 22X10, so a 24 X 8 should not be too much of a...

Is Butyrate dope compatible with S**** Poly-Tone

I'm not sure what you want to do. If you want to use Stitt's Polytone for a final finish, then you do not want to use butyrate underneath it. Not only does butyrate have a problem with just about...

RC Ignition conversion!!!

I bought a new G62 from Ralph with his ignition conversion and throttle coupled spark advance. When I got the engine I was absolutely delighted with the quality. Ralph does really fine work.

Old Timers out there: Which Silk best for Dope??

I've used Koverall for some years now, and it is indeed a great product. I would use silk if it weren't so expensive.

There is one aspect of working with Koverall, or any of the polyester...

clear coat problem: any ideas???

Butyrate goes over butyrate very well. It pretty much does NOT go over anything else. Nor anything over it either. Nitrate dope will accept many other finishes over it, but butyrate does not.

Building On Glass

I built my first airplane 50 years ago using a soft board covered with wax paper. I still use wax paper. Today I use a piece of gypsum board (sheet rock) as a building surface, then wax paper over...

Fuel Line Fittings

I'm not sure what fittings you are looking for, but if you are looking for a tee just trot on over to your local pet store that sells aquarium supplies and you can get metal or plastic 1/8 inch tees...

Fuelish question

Technically, the difference would be that the gasoline with 10% alcohol will have a little less heat energy per volume, will have a higher vapor pressure, which makes it easier to start in cold...

ST 3000 mid rpm vibration, normal?

Ralph:

My test fixture is a piece of 2X6 with a 2X2 bolted on the bottom center. On the end I have a "firewall" of 3/4 ply braced with 3/4 ply triangles down to the edges of the 2X6. I just...

PFM Glue...Where can I find...

Another source is Shoe-Goo, which is also the same thing as PFM. Usually available at Wal Mart in the shoe department. Comes in a red and white tube, cost maybe $3-4. Sold to glue soles onto worn...

ST 3000 mid rpm vibration, normal?

Tom:

If you mount on a fixture and then clamp that fixture into a Black and Decker Workmate (or something similar), be careful when you goose the engine that it does not pull the Workmate over.

ST 3000 mid rpm vibration, normal?

No, this is not normal, but I don't know what is causing it, unfortunately. As for the Dynathrust 18 x 8 prop, all bets are off, but the Zinger Pro should be pretty good. Since it only happens at...

Dively Pitts problem

I think I can see one of reasons right here. Have you set the plane up and checked all the incidences? Have you checked the incidences at several places on the wings? It is critical that you have...

Super Tigre 3250 Fuel Question

I flew my ST 3000's with APC 20 X 10 props, great thrust, great idle, max rpm about 7000, very close to the max power point on the curve. Fuel was usually Morgan ST fuel at 12% oil. These big ST's...

Running Gas Engine Too Rich

3/4 of a turn on the low speed needle is a lot of turning. You must have been pretty rich on the low end. Does it still transition OK? If it does not hesitate when you open the throttle from idle,...

If you want your engine to sound "real" then you have to define real. When you hear a full size engine you hear a combination of things...the frequency of combustion pulses, the volume of exhaust,...

A BME 55 that only weighs 2 lbs? This one I will have to see before I believe. There is hardly any wasted metal on the current engines, so how are the savings achieved? Ceramics? You cannot pull...

G-38 throttle to servo linkage

From a mechanical point of view, the linkage does not know what the shape of the link is, all it knows is that there are two points on each end and it is rigid between the points. To change the...

Amsoil 100-1

Just from a practical point of view...no matter which oil you are using, at 40:1 with petroleum based lube or 50:1 with synthetic or 100:1 with Amsoil (which is "thicker" so effectively you get the...

Bme 44

Remember, the advantage of an engine that takes a long time to break in is that it will take a proportionally longer time to wear out. These engines can run thousands of hours. After five gallons...
