RE: Wing/airfoil design software

I had a problem with Profili.  Big download and kept getting a violation when trying to run.  I also got a security warning saying it was a "seldom downloaded" - i.e. little know program.

I did...

RE: Wing/airfoil design software

This is kind of ironic.  My ex brother-in-law completed his PhD thesis by writing a program to design the optimal glider wing for a given set of variables.  Wish he was still my brother-in-law but he...

Wing/airfoil design software

I'm looking for some free or cheap software to help me design a standard wing for a small, motor powered, traditionally shaped airplane. I'm familar with solid wing design but not ribs and spars.

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

Thanks.  On close-up, I can see the setting very well.  FYI, my throttle arm is on the other side with my carb throat pointing down.  Also, my crankcase vent in on the rear crankcase cover.

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

My LS is even with the trottle body as it says it is suppose to be.  Thanks for the heads-up on that.

Don:  You've got the eye for detail.  Great observations.  I knew it was a composite...

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

I saw a Chinese company advertising a cool starter on Ebay.  It was adapted from a 110cc motorcycle starter and then geared down to 6:1.  It should last forever and turnover anything you like.  You...

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

A DynaTron is exactly what I'm getting Flycatch.  Even with the Dewalt Drill, I had to back of off the compression stroke.  No turnover at all otherwise.

The Hobbico I had just wasn't a very...

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

I'm for that Don.  You know, a geared starter may be just the thing.  You could vary the driver gear and reduce the rpm while increasing the static torque.  I hope the Sullivan starter people are...

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

Thanks.  Good innovation.  I just need a standard 2 1/2" cone.  But I needed a starter with much more torque.

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

It is funny how weird things bite you.  I'm an ex computer hardware/software guy and I should have caught this immediately.  You should always ask yourself "what's new/different/changed?".  In this...

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

OK.  Here's the answer.

1st - it was too rich and, in combination with throttle setting, it was having a hard time trying to start.

However, that wasn't the main problem.  I put an rpm check on...

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

I'm going to try Hobbsy's approach.  I scares me because it is so lean compared to the manual recommendation.  But I'm getting nowhere now.

Earlwb:  No one else has tried to start this motor.  I'm...

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

To Don: No I haven't looked under the hood other than the valve covers.  The valves are opening and closing properly.  I have no idea how to tell if they're doing it with proper timing.  This is a...

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

Thanks BLW.  Of course the others seem to think I'm too rich.  My problem is, other than one time, I've been unable to start the thing at 4 - 5 turns.

Any ideas why I can't get it going with 4 - 5...

RE: New Saito 100 Won't Start

I set the hs to 4 because the silly Saito manual said 5 turns on 100's to 180's for a "rich" breakin.  It also said not to jack with the ls setting.

But I agree with everyone here.  I'll try 2 1/2...

New Saito 100 Won't Start

I have a new Saito 100. I can't get it to start. It will give several popping sounds and quit trying. The spinner comes loose everyttime I try.

I got it going once some how. It was very rich and...

RE: Choosing the right Motor

Probably closer to 6 ounces originaly but I beefed up the airframe, landing gear, and wings significantly.  The steerable tailwheel weights almost an ounce alone.

RE: Choosing the right Motor

Thanks you guys a lot.  You've  shed a lot of light on my issues.  Certainly, I now know how to mount.  This prop size and KV thing still has me wondering a bit.  I'm going to try a combat prop with...

Choosing the right Motor

My 1st attempt at electric. Ihave an old Stinson Reliant kit I'm building. It is a high-wing, gull-wing plane, 31" spanwith a wide stubby fuse. It will weight 8 - 10 oz witout motor, ESC, battery, or...

RE: Weak OS 75 AX - Maybe?

Thanks.  I've been on Ebay for 11 years and have had to use the protection plan twice.  I also got ripped-off for $100's in postage on PayPal  from some Ukranian's.  I've managed to get it back so...

RE: Weak OS 75 AX - Maybe?

MinnFlyer:

I've run a 14/6 and a 12/6.  Thing is, this thing will turn over easily with just the spinner and sounds like an old Bendix washing machine when it's running.  I'm affraid it's time to...

RE: Weak OS 75 AX - Maybe?

Thanks to all you guys.  I did pull the head and inspect the sleeve walls.   However, I could not remove the sleeve as you're supposed to.  It is frozen to the cylinder.  The head gasget is also...

RE: Weak OS 75 AX - Maybe?

RE: Weak OS 75 AX - Maybe?

Crap.  It has an odd sound like bearings also.  No, I paid $125.  Too much for nothing.
