Your right all ARF's are created equal, and if that is the case you should be in the kit section. There are still a few kits out there to build.

The white colored vents on the deck you mentioned in the post are in fact "Dead Man Lights" in reality. They are used at night to give off just enough light for the sailors to be able to walk around...

I think Jomar makes an electronic switch that will be able to handle the current needed to ingnite the engine. You simple plug it into a spar channel in your reciever.
