What type of battery is it ???

For NiCad I would recommend a first charge no more than 1 Amp and discharge completely after run.
For NiMh 2 Amps and after run DO NOT discharge ... if anything,...

For a first car i wouldnt recommend an RTR ...
Best to get a Kit to build yourself, then if anything breaks you have some idea how to change the broken part.
