So could it just be that the voltage on the batteries is a little too high right when I first take them off the charger?

Hmmm... I checked the servo horn again to make sure and it doesn't look like that's the case. I twisted on it pretty hard and couldn't get it to slip. I've seen the servo jump to a new setting...
