RE: Service...

As a follow-up to this thread, I have a 10X with a couple of broken switches (top right corner) and I'd to get them replaced and have the radio checked out as well (it's ~3 years old). I've never...

JR service in the UK

Hi all, long time, no post (been very busy since my move to the UK). I'm a transplanted American in the UK and have a couple of broken switches on my 10X I bought from Horizon. Does anyone know of...

JR 10x use in the UK

If you haven't been there or not been there in the past decade, it's changed a lot. Pittsburgh is the closest comparison in America I can think of...a very industrial city that is revitalizing...

Hmmm. Not to Birmingham, huh? May I ask why (just curious)?

JR 10x use in the UK

Thanks Steve for the feedback. I don't mind getting new receivers, but I'm glad I won't have to give up my TX. On a similar topic, do you know of any good sources of JR equipment in the UK? Thanks...

JR 10x use in the UK

I have a stock US JR 10x radio and am considering a job opportunity in the UK (near Birmingham). I'm assuming that using the US 72MHz gear is a no-no, so is it possible to get a 35MHz module (I...

Electric Shrike?

Sorry to dredge up this old thread, but I've been spending some time investigating this and have since purchased the kit. I've also downloaded MotoCalc and started playing around with it. I didn't...

Balsa Wood!

I usually order from Lone Star as they offer more length and width options. For example, I'm making some wing panels for a plane that are 38" and Lone Star offers a 42" long sheet that reduces waste...

Dihedral brace required?

Thanks for the replies guys...I'm making some progress on the new wing. Got one panel framed up and sheeted on one side (see pic)...at this point, including the unshaped leading edge stick, the...

New engine storage

If it hasn't been handled too much out of the box, just leave it alone...NIB engines don't have a shelf life within a reasonable timeframe (measured in years). I've had engines in the box for...

Please! What Engine Do You Sugest? For.........

You might want to do a search here for "goldberg sukhoi". It's great plane but it's not uncommon for it to finish over 10lbs, so you probably want to go on the high side of the engine...

Widebody 60

I did mine the conventional (center) hinge method...I didn't really see an advantage to the top hinge method and stuck with tried and true. I put a 1/4" balsa on the wing and 3/8" on the aileron to...

Anyone built the Midwest G-202 72" WS?

Mine has a ST 2300 (Italian) with a Perry carb and pump. My kit did come with one-piece aluminum gear, but I switched it out for CF and saved 5oz. Right now, the G-202 is at ~11.5lbs, but I want it...

Dihedral brace required?

I am building another Midwest G-202 wing because the wing built from the kit materials per instructions came out to be nearly 2 3/4 lbs! While I know I can buy foam cores for a new wing, I have some...

Anyone built the Midwest G-202 72" WS?

Hi Steve, I'm building a new wing for my Midwest G-202 since the wing built per the kit weights 2lbs, 10oz, doing exactly what you are suggesting (my Giles is a hair over 11.5lbs right now with CF...

Electric Shrike?

Yes, I want speed, but I also want enough thrust to be able to hand launch it easily. I guess I just naively assumed the average electric flyer wasn't cranking 19K RPMs...that's like trying to...

Electric Shrike?

Thanks for the feedback...I checked out Mega's web site and they indicate their 16/15/3 can turn a 6x4 prop at 19K RPM. Perhaps this is a stupid question, but do people really spin their motors at...

Film over foam---help !!!!!!!

My experience is Econokote doesn't adhere as well and is prone to peeling up over time. Ultracote works well at low and high temperatures and can be used on foam just fine...just turn down the...

Electric Shrike?

I've been lurking here for a little while as I've gotten this itch to try out electrics. I'm an experienced glow builder and pilot and I love my 4-strokes, but I find I just don't have much time...

Engine Mounting Question

I used to tap nylon mounts too until I had a SIG mount strip out due to engine vibration (on the ground, fortunately). Some mounts are pretty brittle and don't hold a thread well...I too prefer the...

OS 61 FX Tach readings

For me, it's just a preference. I don't like the scream of a 2-stroke running at 13-14K, which is why the 61FX is the only 2-stroke engine I have left...everything else is 4-stoke.

From my...

Bottom Wing, what to do??

And the bottom...normally I would use a color for the bottom not in the rest of the scheme, but I was running short on covering when I was finishing this bird up.

Bottom Wing, what to do??

What I normally do is put all my color on the upper surfaces with patterns generally oriented span-wise. I'll typically use 3 or 4 colors with a "base" color of white (although there ultimately is...
