There is no "factory settings" for the novarossi's, they are "pro" level engines and usually they wouldnt have a problem getting it running.

Mine are set at:

3 1/2 turns out on the HSN

For someone whp has 21 RC's you'd think you would know that "if it comes with an engine, theres a BREAK in method in the manual". May not be the best method, but theres ALWAYS a manufacturer...

I had this engine hanging around for awile without a good home. I decided to try it out in my CRT and its absolutely insane. I cant see trying to race this thing with the XR, but it sure is fun, LOL....

Its all about how much money you want to spend. I put an airtronics 94357 for throttle/brake, and a airtronics 94358 for steering. Those were $100 each plus shipping, but they are worth every penny...

What brand of fuel are you running?? Some fuels like blue thunder or traxxas top fuel have high oil contents which on one hand is a good thing for engine life but if you happen to have your needles...

Take it apart and see what the inside of the sleeve looks like as far as scratches, and to get all the dirt out. I'd soak everything all disassembled in some nitro fuel.

A 3.5cc engine is = to a .21 engine, its just the conversion from ci to cc. Also a 4.6 = .28, 5.2 = .32
