I agree with Red. It is all about priorities. The "Wanna-be" dad (that is too busy to fly) is no better to us than the delinquent bar-fly dad that "doesn't wanna-be".

In fact, Red has touched...

Nearly 350 million Americans have chosen other priorities. I'm not certain they are relevant. I am only concerned with the people that have responsibilities stopping them from enjoying RC airplanes.

But you are part of the first group. That group's "goal" is to have a safe place to fly and to have fun.

The goal of the second group is to appear relevant.

I don't seen anything wrong with the AMA, AMA clubs, or with the members that fly at those clubs. I do see a middle class that has been contracting for decades. And I see an expensive hobby. I...

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........

Actually, at my club, the older gang is the most laid back and the most fun to fly with. And most of them have a great sense of humor. I think they would project a very positive image of the hobby....

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........

I think it would be great to have a reality TV show made at a club or maybe a group of nearby clubs. A successful TV show like that would send the hobby into a higher orbit.

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........

Figther feild is a lost cause. Contract mowers introduced St. Augustine grass, which then took over. Big birds can hardly fly there now. The owners are deaf to any conversation of reclaiming the...

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........

I amazed they haven't paved. We must loose 150 days per year, at least due to rain or wet ground. When I flew from pavement we would rush to the field after a rain. The air would be very still and...

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........

The two AMA fields near me are grass and they keep the grass quite tall. One gets the impression they are only meant for big birds.

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........

When was the last time the AMA showed any sustained growth trend ? Look at that data and you might be able to correlate it with changes in and out of the hobby.

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........

Lets face it. Its our fault for not putting those AMA decals on our automobiles. That would have done it.

Considering that most Dads aren't the least bit mechanical anymore and considering...

The AMA should NOT be growing !!!!! Half of its members don't even fly, they never did and they never will. Let them go join the LPGA !!!!!! or The Concorde Coalition !!!!! YOU KNOW WHO YOU...

I have always bought top quality engines and fuels. I am a little mechanically inclined. I get to the field and I fly. But I see many floks that don't. They are in another hobby. They tinker...

RE: Why the AMA is not growing...........

I live in Houston. The freeways here are loaded with huge SUV's. $58 is a tank of gas to a Houstonian. $58 too much for AMA membership ? Nope. They just don't have the time to drive out to BFE...
