RE: M48 Patton - 1/18 RC Conversion

The barrel is actually a lathed aluminium madbull barrel. It had to be tappered to fit into the muzlze brake which I had cut off and bored out. It's hard to tell it from the stock plastic one.

RE: M48 Patton - 1/18 RC Conversion

I'm using the stock rubber tracks. So far I have yet to throw a track, even doing super-spins. Because of the small sprocket this tank is powerful. I'm quite happy with it. And you're right about the...

RE: M48 Patton - 1/18 RC Conversion

Some final pics for now. I was able to figure out a turret traverse system ( had to use a turret ring from a VS tank (somewhat smaller/thicker than one from a HL tank) I'll give a full report once I...

RE: M48 Patton - 1/18 RC Conversion

Some more pics. As you can see I've installed an airsoft unit. I was able to figure out a system to feed bb's to the gun. The gun elevation unit just fitted into the turret (notice its a smaller one...

RE: M48 Patton - 1/18 RC Conversion

Back to my conversion. I've pretty much have this thing done. Just need to put the turret on to the chassis and the chassis onto the hull. Everything seems to fit well. Unfortunately I do have to...

RE: M48 Patton - 1/18 RC Conversion

OK, I have the sprockets attached to the gear box. I hooked it up to a battery and it seemed to have run fine. The true test will be when I get the RC in and run it with turns. I'm optimistic but if...

RE: M48 Patton - 1/18 RC Conversion

I removed the rear drive sprockets by inserting a knife between the transmission casing and the tank's body. I removed the transmission casing from the drive sprocket by prying it off. I then cut...

RE: M48 Patton - 1/18 RC Conversion

RE: M48 Patton - 1/18 RC Conversion

Lol, yes it definitely had a strange look. So tell me, were they designed to run in the water (given their lower hill design. I was thinking about how I could waterproof it and see how it would run...

RE: M48 Patton - 1/18 RC Conversion

I know virtually nothing about the Patton other than I wanted to RC this model. It looks like the tak was designed to travel over water or at least through swamps give the shape of the lower chasis

RE: M48 Patton - 1/18 RC Conversion

Yes, I will try to see how the stock sprockets and tracks work by using my Matorro gear box. I still have to order my Pershing sprockets and tracks.

This is actually an Ultimate Soldier not a 21st Century tank. I hear they are pretty much the same company.
