My, my -- just stopped by for a quick look around and the old LST thread popped up again. Good threads never die, they just go dormant for a while. Andrew, good to see you're still occasionally...

Hi Andrew -

Good to see you're posting again. There are not too many of the old group still around. CP keeps everyone in line and shames the rest of us into reading and posting on occasion. ...

Attached is a tiled PDF of the plane. In the first post of this thread, Bipe has also posted links to ZIP files that contain all the drawings you'll need for the build.

RE: Building and flying the LST 1/2A Trainer

It's not. You can build it as two panels or as one and cut it two. The dihedral braces for ailerons and without ailerons are given in the parts list. The braces are placed between the main spar as...

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?

My preference is Lone Star Balsa, but others may have their favorites.

There is a list of materials in post #60 on page 3 of the thread. Patrick Ulmer put one together.

dmbaerry -

Why don't you start a build thread for your LST. There is a tremendous amount of building experience on this forum and someone will have an answer to any question you might have. ...

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?

I don't believe Andrew (aka: Bipe Flyer) ever published a list. Since the majority of the plane is constructed from 3/32" and 1/16" sheet, after you get it taped up, you should be able to get a good...

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?

Bipe Flyer has had ISP problems over the years and his site server is occasionally unstable. Here are pdf's of the plans.

Andrew, if you had rather serve the plans, I can remove the attachments...

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?

Andrew -

You might add the plans link to the first post in this thread. One of the things I like about the scratchbuilt foamys forum in RCG is that links to plans and mods are added to the top,...

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?

jerusha --

As Bipe Flyer noted, the selection of wood props is relatively limited in the smaller sizes. However, blade flex is not a problem with the engine sizes we run. Some 1/2A props may...

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?

DB

Your drawing is correct -- the tip plate glues to the bottom of the outer rib. Your options are to bevel the ends of the top spars to the angle of the plate and let the plate butt against...

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?

Andrew --

The plans look fine. However, you might consider adding a main gear layout. There have been several questions regarding the main gear and how torsion gear should be installed. I...

Hello Serendpt --

It has just occurred to me that you may be working from the expanded thumbnail in one of Bipe Flyer's previous posts. Bipe (Andrew Donatelli) has set up a MSN Group called...

Yes

>SPARS - I see the spars are from 3/16" square sticks, but what sort of wood? Would balsa be adequate?

Yes

RE: 1/2A trainer anyone?

The "LST" is a nice choice -- Lynn was partial to the high wing Simple Series -- I think he would like it. He flew the 1/2A SST, so why not the 1/2A LST.
