Default Driving nitro across the border

I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I would like to have a very specific blend of fuel that I can't find in any hobby shops in and around the city. It seems that only American companies can mix the fuel, but the shipping cost to Canada are astronomical.

So I ordered 20 quarts of the fuel and it is being shipped to a Buffalo, NY address as we speak (or as I type). I'm going to drive to Buffalo to pick up the fuel personally, then drive it back across the border.

I should have asked these questions before ordering the fuel... Are there problems with this arrangement? Do I need to declare it at the border? Are there any regulations that I am breaking? Are there any other foreseeable problems?

Thanks,
Juice

I would wager at the bare minumum you have to pay duties for the fuel.
As far as hazardous materials going over the border, you'd have to check with Parliment on that.

Or Plan B: Dont stop.

I dont see any problem if you clearly state that you bought model airplane fuel (dont even mention nitro!) and show them, and then declare it and have your receipt. You will get charged 15% tax (gst and pst) but no duty, on the total amount, unless you get a nice customs agent and you are pleasent.

Each year from the Toledo show I bring back loads of stuff and in thelast 5 or 6 years only had to pay the tax 1 time (and my truck is ALLWAYS full of stuff). Each other time I had a nice chat with the agent, explained a few things about modelling and then was waved through with "have a nice day"...

Read http://www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca/customs/menu-e.html, it lists everything you'd like to know about Canadian customs.

You'll probably gone for less than 24hours, meaning you're exempt from taxes and duties for anything under 50$. If you stay over 48hours, it then becomes 200$... 7 days or more, 700$!

I'm sure if you read enough you'll see something about hazardous goods.

" Driving nitro across the border"

This sounds like the teaser-line for a bad action movie...
