First off I didn't participate but our local club had a night flight and it was the first one I had been too!!

I loved it! We had so much fun that I'm going to build my own plane just for it!

They taped glo sticks onto the planes to see them and they worked good but I'd like a better setup with more visability anyone know of anything that will work?

If your going to build a plane just for night flying, cover it with clear monokote, and have led's throughout the wings and fuselage with a battery pack and switch, then you can have an illuminated flying machine.

Using LEDs is a great idea. Go to Digi key and buy a bunch of high entinsity ones. Have fun.

Do the clear monocoat in different colors left to right and top to bottom of the wings, so you can can keep orientation. A guy in my club also put in a landing light that lit the runway when you were close to the ground. It was lit with the retract switch.

mine has coloured LED's in every section, covered in white Easycote. in the day it looks normal, flick on the lights at night and it gives a diffused effect. some clear planes can get a bit dotty. i needed more in the main wing sections as one at the back isn't enough, and nothing shows through the leading edge at all. the surfaces however are perfect.

The LED's aren't they a directional light? Would a bright bulb be better?

hence why i used sidefiring LED's under the white film to diffuse.
standard LED's are not really bright enough, they also have narrow beams, the ultra brights are good for sopt lights, forward facing on the tips, facing the ground etc, you can also point them along the wing from the fuz to light up the outside of the wing.
the "grain of wheat" bulbs work better in clear planes.
like i said above, my wing needed more than just one LED at the rear, i should of used at least 4 per segment and of a brighter output.
