My shed looks like any other two car attached garage with a Ranger pickup on one side and a huge clutter of models, two benches, table saw, disc/belt sander, scroll saw, bench grinder, drill press, shelves full of model supplies, 3 airplanes, 1 sailboat, 1 sailplane and a table. My wife has also cluttered it up with a freezer and refrigerator. Now if I could just get rid of the freezer and reefer I'd have some room to hang the other two airplanes I'm building, and move the CD player over.

No picture, but it's my basement. If you have an unfinished basement or one that gets little use, its a great place.

I took an old, crappy table and put an unused door on it. Flatest building table you can get.

Mine is unfinished, so the wooden frame is in one part. I took some old 2x4's and nailed them on the cross braces( about 3 feet off the ground.) Now I have those to put my wings on, which keeps the clutter down alot. An old rug serves as the tarmac in the back that my planes drip all over.

It is bootleg, but its my shop, and it gets the job done.

Hmm, this thread follows the wild hair I got the other day.
I am prepping my back yard for a 41x24 fully enclosed carport building.
Down here in the South they sell carports for $595. Well I plan to get 2 built as 1. and have 2 10x8 rollup doors and a 36" access door installed on the street side of the building.
Hopefully I can do all this and a slab for approx $6500.
Pics to follow as we go along, but it is going to take a couple of months

Hi, Late last year (Aug, 2002) I purchased a "Clear Span" building from a company named U.S. Buildings complete with optional skylite frosted panel and one turbin from Home Depot. It took about two months to lay down the foundation and finally erect the building. I used the help of my two son's in doing the grunt work. Like to a big erector set lots of nuts and bolts. But, it was finally completed by early November, I built the sides from Home depot "Sofit" 10' lenghts (about $200.00) worth. Building cost $1,200.00 plus skylight cost $350.00, turbin cost $31.50 shiiping and tax, special mount for turbin $175.00. Foundation costs Rebob rods, nuts/bolts, L-brackets, lumber for forms, concret about $800.00. All in all cost of foundation cost as must as the steel shed itself. By the way, the Shed is made of 22 Gauge steel (Quanson Hut style). Very strong if you build building as per the instructions, exactly. My building is 16' x 16'. Original setup was 12' x 16'. I have just about all of my planes hanging off the roof (20' high).

Take care.

Albert

My STEEL SHED is still standing as of today. Not a dent or scratch on it. Built according to engineering spec's per the manufacturer you or anybody else for that matter should have no problem doing the construction. It has withstood harricane winds of 70+mile/hr, hail storms, heavy rains, etc. And, I must say is a testament to a well designed and made product for the consumer. The secret is in the building of the foundation using there channel type system complete with "L" brackets and lag bolts. Go down to the frost line about two feet, use re-bob (sold at all Home Depots for about less than $4.00 a 10' lenght) this will prevent heaving and cracking of the foundation. With the foundation completed, the actual building construction can begin, I and my sons constructed each panel on the ground and then raised them into place one by one with block and tackle, after which each piece was bolted to the preceeding piece (makes for a very strong unit). After all the 2' x 16' panels are in place I went to my local Home Depot, to buy siding. None to be found, I purchased about 20 pieces of 10' x 10" alummum sofit (little thinner than siding), and installed same with metal self taping screws, I installed two pieces of Durarock (cement board) around the lower front part of the shed for extra protection of the sofe siding used. Worked out just fine, and looks good with the extra large sliding window for light and two French doors complete with screen doors. My original idea was to install a 8' x 8' steel garage door, but that was shot down by the wife as looking too much like a second garage, thus the 42" x 42" window instead, and I gained more light in the work area. I use half of the building for storage and the other half for work shop area. And, of course I use the roof to hang all my completed and half completed models from.
Plenty of room, so far. My two cents, Albert

P.S. What ever you decide to build always put down a solid foundation. Good Luck!

Here are some pictures of my shop, I built it myself only problem is it is to small it's only 12'x12' I did all the construction and all the wiring. I am thinking about adding 8' on the end to make it 12'x20'
