I see at Tower Hobbies I can get
TP72FM TX MODULE 25 72290 for 49.99 it says
This is a Transmitter Module for 50MHz or 72MHz Frequency Futaba Radios:
5UAF, 5UAP, 7UAF(S), 7UAP(S), 7UHF(S), 7UHP(S),
8UAF(S), 8UAP(S), 8UHF(S) and 8UHP(S).
----------------- This also is the Module for the New 9C.----------------------
but it's on order and not in stock they also sell
TK72FM/PCM TX MODULE 25 72290 for 54.99 and says it is in stock also they say:
Product Category: Radio Frequency Modules - 72 FM/PCM
Substitution Note: THE FUTL17** IS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO SUBSTITUTE FOR THE FUTL15**, BUT THE FUTL15** CAN NOT SUBSTITUTE FOR THE FUTL17**.
Futaba TK50 & 72 FM/PCM Transmitter Module
Will the FUTL17 work in My 9C Radio?
It looks like the FUTL15 is FM only I need PCM also is there a PCM version?

Is it FCC legal to use the TK module in a 9C. The ad says it is for the 9Z only.

Also, why can the TK be used in the 9C but the TP can't be used in the 9Z?
What are the differences between the TP and the TK? Is there a difference in radiated power?
I'll quit for now.
Thanks,
Dan

I am interested in this answer as well.
I heard it has something to do with the ability of the radio to tell what frequency the module is on, but I want confirmation on that one.

I would also like the answer to this question. I ordered a TP module for my 9C and they sent the TK module. Am I illegal and do not know it? Was the TK actually certified in the 9C?
Also, why can the TK be used in the 9C but the TP can't be used in the 9Z?

I have purchased the FUTL17** for my 9C. I do read on the Futaba web site that it is for the 9Z only. If I can use either one why do they say 9Z only? is there a FCC legal problem here? I will keep on using it until I am told other wise.
With all the time Futaba has made Radios why do they have to change parts/connector and such so that one system isn't compatible with the other. I know there going to state advancements in technology but come on.
Example: the 6XAS radio TX battery connector is of non standard type where they seem to get it right with the 9C. The two radios arn't that far apart time wise. Why is it you have to go to a third party web site to find out how to get past the diode with the 6XAS? I mean battery cyclers have been around long before the 6XAS.
Just my two sense.

This FAQ addresses the issue about which module is used where.
http://www.futaba-rc.com/faq/product-faq.html#q19
The 9Z has different power requirements of its module, so it can't use other modules.

It's OK to use the TK module in your 9C. There are no issues with the FCC on using it.

I appreciate your answer on the TK, however, we have been told by Futaba and the AMA that the Hitec Spectra in a 8U or 9C is not legal because the combination was not certified together. I still have the question "Was the TK actually certified in the 9C?" Could you point to the documentation?
Thanks,
Dan

Bill This is right of the Frequently asked Questions on the Futaba website:
************************************************** **********
The applicable Federal Regulation is as follows:
TITLE 47--TELECOMMUNICATION COMMISSION (CONTINUED)
PART 95--PERSONAL RADIO SERVICES
Subpart E--Technical Regulations
Sec. 95.645 Control accessibility.
(a) No control, switch or other type of adjustment which, when
manipulated, can result in a violation of the rules shall be accessible
from the transmitter operating panel or from exterior of the transmitter
enclosure.
(b) An R/C transmitter which incorporates plug-in frequency
determining modules which are changed by the user must be certificated
with the modules. Each module must contain all of the frequency
determining circuitry including the oscillator. Plug-in crystals are not
considered modules and must not be accessible to the user.
************************************************** ***********
An R/C transmitter which incorporates plug-in frequency
determining modules which are changed by the user must be certificated
with the modules.
IS the 9C certified with this Modual? It works fine in my system just don't want to be a FCC violator.

Since your location is Japan, you don't need to worry about the FCC. They only have jurisdiction here in the USA and it possessions. Your country would have its own counterpart.
