Hey Guys,
I am thinking about starting to make custom parts for people. Such as a-arms , shocktowers, motor mounts , chassis's ,servo mounts, Etc out of 1/4" lexan. I am wondering if anybody would be interested in some parts? I could make parts for pretty much any vehicle I would just need a mock up or the stock part to trace. I could make parts for relatively cheap too. Let me know if you guys have any interest. Here are some pics of some parts I have made..
Thanks Ethan

That's pretty cool I bet you could do a car and use some of those tamiya clear wheels for it
So is this basic polycarbonate (lexan) you are using? How does it hold up and what do you think of it?

are the plastic parts just a mock up/template for others? i have worked with it before and it cracks when you try to drill it so i dont expect it to last long. however it does look cool. i wonder how an electric COMPLETE custom car made of clear plastic.

Fugadude: Yes I am useing GE 1/4" lexan Polycarbonate. Its very strong. I am useing the same material that they use in bullet proof shields, windows, etc. It does flew some with double decks there isn't alot. I am very pleased with it. Its very easy to cut and strong.
koolkid: No these are the actual parts. I am not positive what you where useing but what I am useing is not that material. I am guessing you where useing plexiglass or some other type of clear plastic. I tried cutting something like plexiglass and it did what you explained. This material Lexan is exetremly strong and does not crack when you cut it or drill it. Otherwise it would be impossible to make a chassis out of it.
Peace Ethan

Yea. If you trace a part such as the radio tray or any other part and drawing where the holes are then send the the traceing I could cut it and drill it. Or just send the radio tray . Peace Ethan

custom mini-t dirt oval chassis
lol, if I ever do it, i'll do it myself. Looks like it could be a fun project, I like how it's clear. Where do you get 1/4" lexan or other materials like graphite, carbon fiber?

Are these all handmade or do you have a mill or something? And instead of a drawing is a DWG file ok? Also, can do you aluminum? I would love a metal pede motor plate.

I make these by hand with a scroll saw, drill press, and table saw. Yea a dwg file would be fine as long as it has measurements on everything. I am not sure I am able to make aluminum parts at this time probaly not.
Thanks. I think that the lexan is flexible enough. I know a guy that uses a lexan bumper and it works great. If it did pull out your screws I would refund yuor money.
Peace Ethan

Lexan is not a great idea for big structural parts; I made a whole series of racing parts that I used on my own club racing cars back in 2001. The problem with lexan is you can't use it on nitro cars because the oil reacts with it and makes it brittle. It lasts quite a wile on the electrics, but even then gets brittle over time. They are sweet high impact racing parts, but they will over a year or two snap on you.
