ok to start off, i know next to nothing about RC cars. I found a buggy in my mom's friends house and she said i could have it. so i have had this buggy ssitting around my house for like 3 years. I brought it into a hobbie shop a while ago and was told that it was an older traxxus buggy. all i know about it is it has a traxxus XL-1 speed contol, had a reedy stock motor but i switched it for a raging bull or mad bull stock motor or something like that. so last night i was screwing around with it and decided to try to get it working again(at least properly). last time i used it, it would sit there and kind of pulse forwards and backward when not touching the controller. I have a futaba controller of some kind. so basically it pretty much goes crazy when you turn it on. I was thinking i might need a new speed control or something. If it helps any i will post pics of this ugly thing. it looks like it has been used and abused for many years. if this is the wrong forum for this please don't flame me or anything. I am completely new to this and have absolutely no idea what im doing.

Nothing wrong with your post, welcome to the forum. IT does sound like you have an electrical problem of some kind. Here are some things to check...
1) Crystals match?
2) Antenna on receiver has not been cut or damaged
3) Servo and speed control are well connected to the receiver.
If all of that seems ok, then disconnect the motor from the speed control, so that it can't go anywhere. Now try the steering. Does the steering behave normally? If yes, then it's the speed control. If not, then it's most likely the receiver and/or transmitter, as it seems unlikely (though possible) that the speed control AND the steering servo have gone at the same time.
Lastly, you may want to ask this in the electric buggies forum, they will probably be able to help you better. I'm a nitro dude, I only play with electrics (and usually micros) for a laugh when I can't be arsed to get covered in fuel and mud.
My knowledge is adequate but not advanced when it comes to electrics.
