I feel kinda stupid posting this, because it seems like something everybody would want to do, so I'm sure I could find it somewhere, but...I can't. lol. HPI says the X diff housings can be used on the past trucks, but may require additional parts to convert. Being on my tight budget, I'd like to know what parts I need to get before I go out buying things.
Thanks,
Andrew

That and a new SH will have you wheel standing in no time .
If you have not already, shim the diffs whilst you have it apart.

Why? The X SS diffs come shimmed. My X SS is holding up all right....
I'd probably screw something up trying to shim...

OK. I have an X SS, which is fine.
I also have my first Sav(and RC) - a Savage 25. It's laying in 1,000 pieces, and before I can bring it back to life, it needs new diffs - all around. I want the complete X SS set-up cuz eventually it'll be getting a snazzy engine, and I want to have the X SS easy access...
Just need to know EXACTLY what I need. And some more money.....

ashburg.the stock x ss cases were shimmed WRONG from the factory LOL. They had the shims up against the diff cups, not where they would fix any slop in the crown gear/pinion mesh.I thought they did shim the housings (like they should!) from the factory, but they don't...they only put washer shims on the cups between the cups and the bearings.
The shims need to be between the bearing and the housing - moving the ring gear tight onto the pinion gear
This is evidently why the savage has so many pinion breakage problems (if it hasn't broken, bash on it harder and it will)
