I didn't vote yet, 'cos it totally depends on the radio. The Axial is NOT an expensive engine, and second hand RCs are VERY cheap these days. I would think you'd want a bit more torque than the axial will give you. Tell us what the radio is and I'll have a think about it.

I voted no only because he did the break in on the engine for all you know it could die after a gallon. Also that would need to be a nice radio 2.4 ghz or synthisized to justify that price.

No WAY[X(] I saw a Picco .26 powered Savage go for $175 on ebay with $30 shipping. Mint Condition!!!!!!!!!!!! Only scratches on the cooling head but otherwise completely mint and squeaky clean! I wanted to buy it so bad. Plus it had brand new Road Dawg tires on it
Thats a deal...Not some $500 .21 powered junk.....[:'(]

Axial doesn't have a .21 engine-they have a .28 though. $500 is a bit steep for a used truck. Unless this truck is built up exactly how you'd want it and you absolutely must have it, I'd pass on it.[8D]

I seen the Savage X you are refering to, and the axial engine that is in it is a Axial 28, and the radio is a Airtronics MX-3. I looked at it yesterday at Speeders. It came with alot of extra stuff, HPI bag, tools, amongst other stuff. Is it worth it? IMO it is, he hasn't played with it too much, the tires seemed to have no wear on them, sure you could get one cheaper, but would you get all that for less anywhere else. I can't say for sure, but probly not. Any who, it still looked new, and too did it come with the stock engine? Just curious. Good luck and let us know what you done.

Yeah it came with alot of extras, all the support equipment for it and then some. I can't see were it wasn't really worth it. The guy told me the only reason he was selling it at all was because he couldn't devote his time to it like he thought and still support his Helicopter addiction. He did upgrade the diffs to aluminum ones, the pipe to an SS, the radio to an MX-3, wheelie bar, flywheel engine stopper/kill mechanism, and the engine to the Axial 28. And I believe he was including the hump pack and charger as well. It appeared to be in like new condition so go figure, a new X would be $440 at the LHS alone. Add the HPI Savage carrying bag w/ the tools and there bag, that alone puts you over the $500 mark and you don't even have the extras included to the price yet. And those bags are sweet, I'll have to look into getting one of them. Then again everybody has a different opinion on how much one is really worth, but being on the local market, at least he would know where to find the guy if something was wrong. Can't do that with ebay or other online listings for the most part. I'd say it's a safe bet to buy.

Yeah, second hand R/C's (previously owned) are getting cheaper by the minute, but as with most that are sold online through various sites, you really don't get a chance to see it run, look it over, or ask in person questions. That alone eliminates any of the dreaded surprises that normally occur. And being a Noob, this is a plus for you because he is sooo local. Two, the Axial is an inexpensive engine, about $130 bucks anywhere you look, but it's, from what I have read, a good reliable engine with plenty of grunt. They say it holds a tune real well and is good for beginners, but I cannot speak from experience on that engine. You can do more homework on it and make your own judgement. But if you look around most X's are about this price with the same upgrades and the ones that are less tend to have something wrong with them. So good luck I hope this helps you.

How well they hold up? This could cause quite an lengthy discussion and reall deserves it own post, I can say for one, I haven't had a trouble one except the normal wear and tear items go wrong with any of my savages (25 and X) such as the spur gears and clutch shoes. It almost seems bullit proof. I had a Maxx and I can feel your dads worries from here, there was quite a bit I had to do to extend it's durability, more than I wanted too. This isn't a cheap hobby by no means but HPI did it's home work it trying to keep it less expensive with the Savages durability.
