I'm 1 1/8 turns into my high speed needle and I've got temps in the low 270's with the body off??
How far into the high speed adjustment do you guys get before you start going over 250??
Outside temperature while running was in the mid to upper 70's? I'm just on the 9th tank of fuel since taking it outta the box (first 4 tanks were break in). Is this characteristic of new trucks, or should I back off the high speed setting? I'm running the glow plug that came in it.

Low 270's seem kind of high for a new engine. I would back off a bit and keep running it a little rich for a while. Remember when you put your body on there is going to be less air flow so it is going to run hotter. I like running mine in the 220 - 250 range.

If your below half a tank of fuel it ill run a bit leaner meaning higher temps. If you still have over half a tank of fuel I would richen it up an 1/8 a turn.

I don't understand how you guys can be telling him to aim for a specific temperature, I'm sure you all know that you should tune to performance and not temperature. It doesn't run best at any specific temperature, it runs best at the temperature it runs best.
Mine runs from 260-300 depending on the weather, it's tuned perfectly, I get great performance. Every so often I take the temp, but as long as it's 300 or less I'm perfectly happy. DON'T WORRY ABOUT TEMPS unless they are extreme, in which case, there's probably a problem of some kind like an air leak in the fuel system. As ong as you always have some smoke at full throttle, the engine is getting the lubrication it needs. That is all you need to know.
These engines run fine up to 300 for gallons and gallons, and besides, they are not racing mills, they are not meant to last forever, and they are not built with such crazy tolerances as racing engines. Bash it til it breaks and then get a new one, it's not like its a $400 mill you want to get the last litre out of.
The moral: DON'T WORRY ABOUT TEMPS!

Thanks Foxy! Your explanation makes good sense and is quite helpful!
Even at the 270 temps I'm still getting a pretty heavy smoke trail, so I guess it'll be OK?
