Default Tam Gear Failsafe causing jitters.

Hi guys

Has anyone had radio iterference problems due to the installation of a Tam Gear Failsafe unit?

I have just installed a second one of these units in a SM F5. During initial range checks I found that various flying surfaces on the jet were jittering. I changed the antenna position, but still the jitters. Then I changed the receiver, but still the jitters. Finally I started unplugging various servo leads from the receiver. The moment I unplugged the retract servo all the jitters stopped. I then plugged the retracts servo back in without the Gear Failsafe unit (being on a y-lead), and no jitters. The moment I plug the Y-lead with the Gear Failsafe unit in, the jitters started again.

I was about to install another Gear Failsafe unit in the F5 when I remembered that I had similar jitter problems on my SM F15 a while back. In this case moving the antenna had sorted the jitters out and I have been flying the jet without any problems. I decided to put the antenna on the F15 back to it's original position, and back came the jitters on the elevators. You guessed it ......... as soon as I took the Gear Failsafe unit out of the receiver on the F15, the jitters stopped.

Please let me know if I am doing something wrong as the Gear Failsafe unit is realy a great idea. What's more I bought a few of them to eventually install on all my jets ...........

Cheers

I don't know how many unit we had install and sold.
This problem we never experience. So there is no answer to your problem.
If you can. Send that unit back to me for inspection. I like to find out why that unit you had problem and I send another new unit to you.
Thanks

I like know what purpose of the Y-extension are use in the Gear Failsafe unit. What is on the other end of the Y-extension?
Any information that I can get will help to nail the down the problem.

Hi guys

Of course you're right, there is no Y-lead. I simply plugged in without the unit being between the retract servo/gear door sequencer and receiver. Sorry for the confussion.

Tam, I fitted a ferrite bead to the lead and it reduced the jitters a lot. However, I also tried another unit but the jitters are still there. Thanks for your offer, but until I can find out what is causing the problem in both my new jets, there is no reason to send it back to you. I am also about to install a unit in another jet of mine that I've been flying for a long time. If this jet produces the same problem - I might send all the units back to you.

One thing that is very obvious is that the jitters only affect the digital servos, none of my analog servo's in the installation are jittering.

I'll keep you updated as the situation unfolds.

Cheers

Now you got me confused[sm=confused.gif], I though you understood the problem was caused by the tamjet unit..

If both you unit does the same thing. That is not normal. You had to find the source.
Also check the servo extension. If any bad servo extension also does the the jitters.

Here is how you can check.
Take that RX out the airplane and hook up the gear failsafe direct to it. Take few of the digital servo hook direct to the RX.
Do some test run without any servo extension. Let see it still does that.
