Hi,
Just wanted to check with you guys, what is the correct orientation for the two main tanks in the ultra bandit. In which photo below am I holding the tanks in the correct orientation? I need to know because I need to mount the tank overflow at the 'top' of the tank as per normal BVM.
Also whats the difference between the 4.8L and 6 Litre tanks? I have the two main tanks(F86 ones) and a super bandit header tank. I assume the total volume of these is 6 Litres?
Thanks
Geoff.
Edit: and before anyone asks I can't find it in the manual anywhere

Cheers Mick.
I thought that was the correct way but I wanted to check. So the vent is put in the narrow end.
I was going to phone you but have lost your number so I was hoping you would be around to help[sm=thumbup.gif]

Actually, Geoff asks a very reasonable question. If I were installing those tanks, and space allowed, I would install them as in the RIGHT photo. Reason: at low fuel states in terms of volume, the fuel surface will stay higher in the narrow "lower" part of the tank thus reducing the risk of uncovering the clunks in a nose down attitude. The fuel pickup holes in the BVM F4 tanks are at the the top of the tank as in the right hand photo so that is not a problem. Or have I missed something (apart from slightly changing the vertical C of G) ?

Hi Geoff:
Like Mick noted, the left photo is the correct orientation of drain and vent for the F-86 style tank....I have them in my large BVM Saber....
As far as tanks go, I think you must have the 4.8L version sure look like Saber tanks.....
I have the large tank version, 6.2 L.....they have a significantly different contour....
Nothing about the fuel tanks in the manual, but info came on an addendum sheet with the tanks in the box #i6820
Both tank sets contain internal baffles....BVM sent out a notice that rarely, the brass tube that crosses the baffle was worn thru....he now has a stainless steel tube upgrade...
Other pertinent addenda include:
1. Adding Kevlar, C/F, and F/G to the nose area following recent in-flight break up
2. External tank mounting instructions #031907----not included in the manual
3. Factory Installed Fin and Stab Bracket strengthening with Aeropoxy on kits made before 01/01/07
4. Nose flex arm replacement directions if broken after hard landing
Here are photos of my tank:

Cheers for that Tom,
Was aware of all the additional info you mentioned.
David - Had the same thought which is why I wanted to check
Jason - Why did I know if there is one person who would say that, it was going to be you.
Geoff.

I must be so predictable... You I am only joking Geoffrey. You also know I rate you as maybe the best jet builder builder in Abingdon.

Hi,
I have another tank question and rather than start a new thread I though I would simply resurrect this one.
I have glued all the fuel tanks together and installed them loosely in the fuselage. See first photo. In addition I also have to fit the smoke tank option. This consists of two tanks as per photo 2 and 3. I have been trying to work out where they are meant to be fitted in the fuselage. I am guessing the banana shaped one(which actually from a mig 15 kit) fits under the fuel header as per the fourth photo but I have no idea where the second smoke tank goes.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks.
Geoff.

Geoff,
I installed my smoke tanks as follows:
The forward tank is the F-86 tank, and is mounted behind fuselage frame F-2 with the step and bung facing forward. I removed some of F-2 between the equipment tray mounting blocks in order to reduce it's height between the maple blocks. This allows the smoke tank fill and feed lines to exit the tank without interference. When viewed from above, the tank glue joint and the aft end of the tank is visable below the aft end of the equipment tray. The supply line exits the tank and curls around behind it to the pump.
The vent line goes to a tee and then to the drain fitting.
The next aft lower bay contains my TamJets smoke pump. It is fastened to the fuselage floor.
One bay aft of the smoke pump (behind F-3) contains the MiG tank. It's curvature allows it to sit below the center of the aft end (round part) of the inlet duct assembly.
The fuel system header tank sits right where you show it in your photgraph, with the aft smoke tank (MiG) located in the bay immediatly aft of it.
I hope this wrtten explanation is adequate....but I'll see if I can get some pix of it today, but it is hanging in the shop for the winter. As it is starting to snow right now, I don't want to move the hotrod from under it to take the pix..

Cheers for that Harley,
Now it all becomes clearer! I completely missed the fact that the Mig tank fits under the inlets. I have just tried the install as you explained and I can see it will work fine. You also cleared up another question that I had, where do I put the smoke pump mechanism? Well now I know I can put it on the floor as per your instructions. I now thinking about how I would secure the fuel header tank between the inlets as it is above the smoke pump. I am thinking of either a small former screwed to the inlets and then the tank fastened to this or alternatively simply velcroing the tank to the inlets. What did you do?
Any pictures would be gratefully received.
Thanks again.
Geoff.

Geoff,
I'm glad that arrangement will work for you as well as it has worked for me.
The header tank sits in the bay with a bit of Velcro on the bottom to hold it down on top of the pump. The pump is attached to the fuselage floor with Velcro as well. Simply coat the fiberglass with some 5 minute epoxy glue to make it smooth, and then adhesive backed Vecro will adhere nicely.
You could also apply some 5 minute epoxy to the end of each inlet trunk and use Velcro to attach the header tank.
