Has anyone been using 5645 on jets? how reliable are they compared to the 8411 or 8611? could there be any problem in using the hitecs with a spektrum receiver? I was thinking of using the hitecs on the flaps and rudders and 8611s on ailerons and elevators on the Elan. What about voltage regulators, would it be better to use a 5.1v , 6.0v or any other. Any advise would be appreciated.
thanks, Luis

Same sort of question, How does the resolution of a 5645 compare to a 5625.
Is it better because of the higher torque which must mean lower gearing or worse because of possible back play due to the lower gearing?

At the time I was using 5.1 volt regulators and could get the voltage to drop just below 4.5 volts momentarily. I am now using 6.0 volt regulators in the F-16 so if I lose a 1/2 volt I am still at 5.5 volts (instead of 4.5 volts). The regulators are the same price, you might as well use 6 volts!! It is a margin of safety, not to mention the fact that you get an increase in available torque with higher voltage.
Given my testing, even though it is somewhat primitive, I would be a little concerned using eight servos on 5.1 volts. I have been using a small Powerbox on the rest of my jets that use a lot of servos; i.e. Bandit, A-4, and soon my new Elan. I have never had so much as a glitch and I am approaching 150 flights on the Spectrum systems now. If you don't want to spend the money on a power supply I would at least use 6.0 volt regulators. Just my experience so far!!
BTW, you can buy the 5955TG servos at Servo City for $85.00 right now...Gary

I use a bit different setup. No regulators at all. I use 2pcs 5 cell NimH packs. For the Elan I would go with 2000Mah each. Dual switch harnesses and plug the "extra" battery in an unused servo port or thru a "Y" harness on the retract or brake channel. I've seen to many failures due to inadequate regulator rating. No need to isolate the packs either! I recommend the NO BS elite cells at 7mh. Keep it simple.
The Hitec 5645 would do fine...BUT the JR8411's will give stomping performance!

Yeah that's right keep it simple. We have tons of flight's on the Elan using 5645 ailerons but we did put a 8411 on the elevator and also unsing the Jr. ST126 on the flaps.

I say keep it simple with a Smart-Fly Turbo Reg w/ failsafe switch , Smart-Fly Power Expander EQ10, and dual 7.2v 2200-3300 Li-Poly packs.
That's my idea of keeping it simple, and redundant.

I am using Futaba S3305 servos on everything in my Boomerang XL except gear valve and brake valve. These servos are 99oz of torque on 4.8V and are all metal gear. Got mine for about $35 each. They perform very well for me and I know they would be great in an Elan as well.
