Default Anyone Been Ice Racing?

Has anyone taken any type of nitro on sheet ice, like lake. I was wondering how fun it was, what type of traction you get and how physically pressuring it is on a car.
Anyone?

IF you ever try it you will need to make metal spiked tires by screwing screws from the inside out to create spikes.

i did it years ago with my falcon.
after driving on the street the tires turned to slicks so i pushed thumb tacks through the inside and torn up the ice.

fun

i live in ny too and there isnt any ice around

It's been done. There are cool photos in here somewhere. Go back about 2-3 months, or try a search.

Yeah, not much ice, but i have a small pond in the back, and for a cople of weeks there is nearly five inches, usually enough.

home-made ice tires are pretty common in mountain biking too. Typicallly they do the same thing, get some short wood screws and screw them through the knobbies from the inside out, cut the tips off (although you probably don't need to with an RC vehicle, thats mroe for safety) and then cover the screws (on the inside) with several layers of duct tape. I think if you do it with a foam insert thats as hard as possible, you might be ok. (as far as the screws not coming back out), but the best way is to get some that have nice thick knobs, and then screw through the knobs so the threads bite and it doesn't want to just push right back in.

i kept the tacks in with glue.

remember now the tires on my old tamaya falcon were hell of a lot thinner than tires today. thats why tacks worked
