I don't know much about building a race track, but the cheapest material is going to be concrete, but it will be hard to get smooth enough to race those low ground clearance cars on.

were actually going to base the track on a 1/10 scale formula 1 track (yes, my cousins yard is pretty big) and we were thinking about concrete to but its gonna be some work. its not only going to be a flat surface but its going to have small uphills and down hills. so we need all the help we can get. i estamated that the whole thing would be done in about 6 months. there are only 3 of us who's gonna be working on this project, so i hope it turns out good. he wants all the banners and all those sponser posters and everything. pit stop garages, the works....i think he's crazy!

The easiest way to start is to get ariel photos of your F1 tracks and select a track that fits the yard the best. Then adjust the photo you have to the correct scale. Lay a grid pattern over the photo like 1" = 1" or so, and transpose that grid onto the yard. Then its just a connect th dots and lines on the yard.

Should not take too long actualy to get the entire thing plotted on the yard. Building the track would be best in concete, making it smooth enough wont b a problem.

I do not know much about how deep a road is in an F1 track but I'd dig 2"-3" down around your entire track, and fill int he concrete. Not cheap, but not very expensive either.

Tell him to find a concrete worker and offer his about 200 to put a professional finish on the track on a weekend. He'll be very happy with it. With Concrete it's easy to float it out too much which will turn the top 1/4 to powder when it dries. Also it's easy to not float it enough. Also the tools to do it are expensive and a current worker can probibly borrow some from his work Including the Gas powered surfacer that'll put that final touch to it.

bad news guys. after my cousin was thinking about all the hard work that needs to be done, he kinda got discouraged and he said that me might just do a simple track, which i think is going to be a big waist for that huge yard. im still trying to talk to him. hopefully he'll come to his senses. dam panzee....
