Default Equalizer II Now Glitching problem.

Please help....

I got rid of a reversing "Y" harness in my Funtana 90, and replaced it with an equalizer II for the elevator Halves.

Now I hate to blame the Equlaizer for this problem, but now I am having severe glitchine problems.
THe equlaizer made setting my plane up a snap...but right now it's unflyable with all the glitching.

I have replaced the receiver with a new one, and also replaced the crystal (Ch 60)

I am running 6 Volts.

Servos are Futaba 3305's

WHen it glitches, it's ALL the control surfaces...

I'm going to remove all of my servos, and instead of using the plug in extensions, I'm going to solder the wires and heat shrink them just to make sure that a servo extension or connector isn't the problem.

Oh...and none of my other planes are having this issue, so I don't think it's the transmitter.

Even my brushless electric plane doesn't glitch.

Please help!!!

Larry

HI Larry,
The easiest thing for me to do is send you a new Equalizer and see if it solves the problem. I have thousands of these flying with excellent results. Something may have gotten by test, I don't know, but sending you a new Equalizer is the quickest way to see if its a bad Equalizer or you need to look else where for the problem. Of course, if you want a refund I understand. Please let me know where to ship the unit, I cannot tell if you ordered direct from us or not.

LarryQ,
Rest assured you will get good service from Ritchey, and it shows. I went to buy a set up off of his web page and everything I wanted was out of stock. That tells me how much everyone is liking his products. I will keep and eye on his stock and order when they are in. I'm not using anything elese other then Smartfly products in my "many hours in the building" 35% planes. Hope you find you problem. Hooker53

Hi Hooker53,
Sorry we are out of stock. We were caught off guard this spring with the demand for our products. We also have had some production glitches that have caused us to get behind. Our PCB house had a fire which held up some boards they had in progress. We did try to source from a couple other sources but we were not happy with the results. The boards were good, the companies were just no honest with us on delivery estimates. We should have some of the TurboRegs in stock next week along with some PowerExpander Pros and 14MZs.

Since I have done this it's just a thought...

Are you sure that both your tx and rx are on the same type, i.e. PPM vs PCM?

I mention this because I have to switch my tx to PPM for my foamy and if you don't cycle the tx which is necessary for it to switch modes, it produces the exact thing you are talking about on the foamy since it has the PPM rx.

Zeeb....I wish that were tha case...but I double checked and everything is set PPM...

I'm hopefull that a swapout of the equalizer will be my solution....

I got rid of every "Extra" connection I could..and soldered everything direct rather than use the plugs on the extensions...and that made no diff.

SO far..the only thing that helped was routing the antenna as far a possible away fron the equalizerII....

This made things much better..but still not airworthy...

I will report my findings after I replace the equalizerII..

THanks to everyone for their help!!!!

Hi Larry,
Thanks for the feedback. Not sure what might have happened in the other Equalizer. I will take a look but it may be impossible to track down exactly why its putting out some interference.

I got a harrier .46 that requires two servos to operate elevator halves. I have a Futaba 6EX Tx. I initially used a reversing Y harness and during the intial flight the elevator would not stay trimmed. The plane would hold trim for moment then climb like it hit a thermo. Can an Equalizer help me? And how does this work?

Hi Airborne,
The reason you had a problem with your reversing Y is that it is based on analog technology and the reversing side will change as temperature changes. Not a good thing when trying to establish a stable trim. The Equalizer II is all digital and allows you to adjust the center and both endpoints on both servos. It then uses these adjustments to interpolate the elevator position at all the inbetwen points to match the elevators over the whole range. The Equalizer II can also reverse either or both servos. It has been used very successfully on split elevators.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.

rrritchey,

I just ordered my Equalizer II. Also, thanks for the quick response regarding my question. I'm hoping this easy to use and not combersomse? Also, do I need to have the equalizer installed in the plane in a location which is easy access for ajustments?

Hi Airborn,
I think its easy to you. If you have problems you can call and I can walk you through it in just a couple minutes. I suggest you place it near your receiver and run two wires to the back, one for each servo.
