Default Replacing Glow Plug Engine with Brushless Electrics

Hi,
A friend of mine has a Prather Deep V hull 1.18 m. long. It currently runs on a Webra 90 glow plug motor, and runs quite fast. We want to it convert to Brushless electric power (maybe twin motors) for ease of use, as he is now 87.

Can someone please advise a suitable setup for twin motors, ESC and props.

He still runs 3 model cars that use LiPo batteries (I think they are 3800 mah 14.8V batteries), so we thought that we can use them if possible.

Thanks

I would strongly recommend using a single motor on that hull. Twins are problematic in monos and are NOT for an FE beginner. And big boats are expensive even with a 'budget' setup. There is nothing worse than a cheap big boat build where the boat does not perform, it burns up parts and the builder has neither a boat or his money to show for all his work.

How fast does he want to go?
How long does he want to run?
How much does he want to spend?

A budget setup could be:
Leopard 5692/730 Kv motor running on 10S
Swordfish 240HV controller
10S1P 5000mAh 35C battery
x455 prop

A top-end setup which has been successful in dozens of FE monos would be:
Neu 2215/750Kv motor
Castle ICE200HV controller
10S2P 5000 mAh 45C battery
x462 prop

Budget = lower cost, lower reliability, lower speed, shorter run time.
Top-End = higher cost, very reliabile, high speed, longer run time.
Take your choice.

Thanks for the replies guys,

He wants me to have the boat in the future and has basically given it to me but I would like to set it up for him to drive. Therefore I will be setting it all up, including the costs. A run time of approx 20 minutes would be good.

I don't know it's full speed in mph/kph, and I have seen some smaller hydroplanes go faster. The speed may be 2/3s of what is in this video - http://www.youtube.com/user/Titanis2000. This boat can also handle some choppy water which would be too rough for them.

I think that a single motor would be fine if they can do the task, as I won't have to fit new shafts, rudders and water pickups and can use the existing. I previously set up the running gear for the boat as he always had fun with alignment and with the power of this motor the alignment had to be spot on.

I will check out your recommended set-ups with regards to price etc as we are in Australia.

I only suggested the twin motors as the current setup has a lot of torque and has trim tabs for stability, and twin would take care of that issue.

I run electric boats, but they are scale and the latest runs on 2 x Graupner 700bb motors with 2 banks of 8 x 9ah D NiMh cells that give me a run in excess of 45 minutes. There is a photo in my profile. This is totally different scene to the FE's.
