RE: crystals
They have to be matched, might even need specific crystals for Tx and Rx as otherwise why bother marking crystals with a T or R?
Also think the Tx and Rx will only work within a certain limit they were made for- swine will put us right......
In the meantime try eBay and buy a pair of crystals similar to what was in the Tx or Rx.
All the best

RE: crystals
This depends on the radio BUT-
Any radio that uses a standard crystal should work fine with any crystal as long as it's on the right band - 27, 72, 75 mhz, otherwise the radio will not be turned properly.
I used to have. a box full of crystals for my futaba radios, they were from a number of makers, not all futaba. They worked fine.
Some offshore branded radios used to use some different stuff but these weren't mainstream manufacturers.
What may be even cheaper is getting one of the GT-3b 2.4g transmitters. Gives you the safety of 2.4g and the bonus's of a programmable radio.

Hard to beat for 40$ and about 10$ receivers.
I don't own one but 2 of the guys I boat with have them and they are working great for them.
