540 setup for graupner keywest?

we all know that less weight is greater speed. Instead of the large heavy 700 motor with 12 cells, i was thinking of using a very fast 540 motor on 6-7 cells with a smaller propeller.
would i get a faster boat?

Probably not, as the 540 doesn't have the torque needed to turn a prop big enough to get the Key West up to speed.
Instead of the 500 series, I'd look at a long can 600 motor on eight cells (Jamara).
Make sure the watercooling works!

ok! so a venti 600 would be good. Or maybe i gonna use my graupner 600BB SP, however... i dont have any watercooling system.
is it possible to run these kinda motors in boats without watercooling?

A Venti 660 would be even better, as it has more torque.
Running these motors on more than six cells without watercooling is not advisable, unless you want to burn them up.
Watercooling the can is the bare minimum, adding brushcooling is even better.
Take a look at www.offshoreelectrics.com in the tips and tricks section how to make can- and brushcooling, it's not that difficult!

P.S.: If your Key West still has the original "brakes" under the hull, you may want to flatten those aswell, that will really make a difference...
