Hi I am totaly new to boats ( I run nitro monster trucks mostly ) My question is I am building a Dumas Cris Craft Runabout and I dont know what to get for electonics and motor. Can you use the same speed controlers as cars or do you need special stuff? What about motors. I would like it to be quick but not to quick ? Thanks

Hi,
That's a scale runabout right, well for scale speed -
I would recommend a Graupner Speed 600 (550 class) 7.2v motor, 6-7 cell pack and yes you can use a car Esc at this voltage.
The only differences between car esc and marine versions are:
Cars are normally only 6-7 cells Marine upto 14 typically (although some go higher)
Waterproofing epoxy coating on marine
Auto brake fitted to car, not needed for boat
Marine often fwds only, trust usually don't want to go in reverse as props are designed to work well in only one direction, it's a shape thing
