I hate to hear that someone with cubic dollars wants a boat that will go that fast as it takes a lot more than that when you are talking about running anywhere near that speed. The setup is very critcal on a boat running at high speeds, you can't just slap one together and expect it to go that fast as changes as little as 1/2 degree will make a huge difference in its handling.
I'd say that 3 Grand would be a conservative estimate to go that fast.
Sorry, I've already seen people with more money than experience or brains and what they can do in R/C boating.

well
take the budwesier select cat boat , it set the world speed record for 202 mph for its class of boat
so then if you have a 1/10th scale version of it then the respectable speed for it is 20.2mph
and if you havea 1/8th scle its 25mph and so on just devide the top speed of the real boat buy the scle of your boat

OK, but here's the prob. I've got a Drifter S [ @ 26 " ] same as the Scat Cat 26 that you have . What's the scale ? If you've calculated the scale speed formula for your SC 26 I can use the same. Help !

well the boats are the same length yes
but the scat cat is modeled after the 44(foot ) mti cat ,
and the drifter is modeled after a 60 foot aussie cat
so there is a diffrence in scale !
so your drifter is proble about 1/10th scle , and my CS26 is more like 1/18th
see what im saying ?
so your drifter in real life usaly make about 170-180mph runs consistantly
that means 18mph is scale speed
hmmm that seems a little slow , but it is scale and most boats never run scale

RE: I need 100mph plus boat material
Here's what I'm trying to figure out : If a two foot 1/8 scale boat does 37 mph and a 60 foot it's scaled after does 180 mph, what is the extrapolated speed of the two foot boat. Maybe I should stop trying to figure this out, my head hurts !

And any way , you have it rite , most boats dont run scale ,any way , no reason to worrie , just rember if the boat is dialed in rite , there should be very little rostertail at full speed
lol

Hey guys i agree i dont think that a person should have a set speed to go and that they should just get all the right stuff and be happy with the turn out as that is what i do, And im into the nitro cars.

RE: I need 100mph plus boat material
Here, take him sky diving an have him jump out of the plane with the boat. It should hit 140.... In all honesty...100 is very scary for any RC "minus planes"... maybe suggest a 7-14 cell rigger to him to see if he even wants to go that fast? That should be good for what guys.... 30-45mph?I know people in LCMBC that have spent atleast 3000 on thier b-riggers "7.5cc 60%nitro 20+yrs exp" and they ony got close to 75-80 and even then on a 1/6mile course thats too fast "it more or less ran a 1/4 course because of the speed" Just my .000002cents

RE: I need 100mph plus boat material
As a fast electrics vendor - dont try and give your customer a 100 mph boat
He can have a 70 mph boat easy - 1/8 scale hydro
But as others here note the very high speeds are about setup. Also a lot of the fastest electric boats are actually relatively small - one guys sets his 24 cell speeds using a 6 cell rigger
Your customer seems to need more commitment too.
Calculating scale speed -
The way to do this is to multiply the oringal boats speed by the square root of the scale factor.
For example if you have a boat which is a 1/4 the length of the original then the square root of the scale factor is 1/2 ie 1/2*1/2 = 1/4
Using a real example the 203 mph Callan Marine cat and the 34" Toysport model of that boat http://www.fastelectrics.com/hulls.asp#Tunnels
The 34" Toysport model is approximately a 1/14 scale model of the Callan Marine Cat
The square root of 1/14 is 92/355.
Multiply 203 x 92/355 = 52.5 mph is the scale speed of the cat
