Noob Outrigger : what do I have here ?
Hello,
I'm a total noob when it comes to boats since I'm a car guy ( I'm all over the electric car section ) but today I bought a second hand boat , it's an outrigger I guess. Inside is a BK warrior water cooled ESC and a Lehner - 1500 I thinck , because I can't read the tag - with a Lehner water jacket. The motor and servo are bolted to a CF plate. I also got 2 seven cell batteries with the boat and the servo appears to be a Blue Bird micro servo because the casing is translucent blue , I'm just guessing here.
Can somebody see in the pictures if I bought a nice boat ? I hope I did anyway. I also know that the rudder can be "tuned" up or down , the prop can be changed, ... Can you see if that is done right by the previous owner. Is this a professional race boat or just for fun. Like I said , I'm totally new to boats and I can use all info I can get.
Will I need a rubber boat to retrieve it or is this a stable "driving" boat ?
Thanks for your answers and remarks.
David.

I think you will enjoy it Thats a good motor its fast. Do a search on boat retreival, I use a reel and rod with a tennis ball on the end. Right now I am building a push tug to retieve my gas boat.

The reason I bought the boat is exactly that , the Lehner motor and BK warrior esc because I use them with my BL cars too. Those are bullet proof. Thanks for the fishing rod tip [sm=wink_smile.gif]
Are these easy or hard to play with ? Do they turn sharp corners without flipping over ?

umm that is not a newbie boat. that is a full on racing rigger. expect 50-60-mph out of that.
I would buy something a little bit umm less extreme.
35-40 mph is fast and most people have a hard time with that.
i would watch that boat if i were you.

that is a blixard X hull from climate models.
I have that hull and it runs great.
you have your hands FULL with that boat just pray every second you drive it that you don't crash it

Well , I have some good news I only payed 190 $ for the whole thing including batteries and tools and spare parts. The boat use to be from a famous Belgian boat modeler. Here's the guys website http://users.pandora.be/kn/modelpowerboats/.
I've tested the rig ( on my work bench ) and everything works good. The warrior esc is in like new condition and so is the motor. The hull has no visible wear or damage.

Do not rev that motor with out a load. only move it to make sure there is no binding. you can damage your brushless motor if you rev/run it with out a load.

fast cars are eazy compared to this
this hull runs VERY loose and VERY easy to capsize flip and spin out.
the hull is great ( speaking with a biased opinion) runs well but it can be a true b**ch if you have the smallest thing wrong

Would it be better for me to take out the electronics and build them into another boat ? Ifso , wich boat would be fun , fast and stable running . Can I re-use the rear aluminim parts ( rudder , ... ) and bolt them to another hull. I would love to have a hull wich is self turning when it flips over. any ideas on a nice hull like that ?
Thanks.

Looks nice , but the only catch for me is that I have absolutely no idea where to drill holes and stuff for the rudder shaft , fins , ... etc. I'll try to find a pre-finnished hull around here. Or do you know a website who sell them ?
Thanks , you've been a great help so far :-)

He also told me that - since I have lots of fast car experience - I'm gonna be turning fast laps in no time :-)
This is the website of Walter http://www.boattroubles.be/Wedstrijdklassen.htm
So thanks allot guys for giving me the exact info I was looking for. That's what this forum is all about right. He lives only 30 minutes away from me aswell , talking of luck .
