How many ESC's are needed

I want to run two 550 motors,Do you need a ESC for each motor or does one ESC handle two motors?

I would recommend one ESC for brushed motors when running two. Make sure it can handle the current of one motor times two.
If it's a brushless motor I would recommend 2 ESC's.
