Default Modding a turbo vee

I just got a turbo vee and put a traxxas titan 550 12t motor with a 7.4v 2s lipo. The performance was less than what I was looking for. I'm thinking of running it on a 3s lipo or changing the prop out for a bigger one. Any suggestions on where I could get a prop that would fit on the shaft? Can I go larger size for better performance? or is it better to get higher rpm out of the motor?

On a side note I did try a mamba 7700 motor and speed control but it was way too much power for the drive assembly. started cavitating pretty badly and there was a popping sound as it would rev up. Any way to strengthen that up? I'm looking to get 30 mph out of this thing on either a 2s or 3s lipo. Ive seen a 12 cell version on a 600 series motor on youtube and that is the performance I am trying to acheive. Thanks for the help.

The 12 turn 550 may hold up with 8 cells, but will be on the edge at 3S lipo.

the boat went 3-4 mph faster than stock. i used a 36mm s series cf prop. i beat a kid that was running a stock one on a 600 motor, on six cells, i was also running 6-cells. but on the stock motor. it was a pain to convert but i did it.

btw the vid on there doesnt work but idk y.

I noticed that after my last run, I think the stock prop is starting to melt. Do you have any links where I can get the prop you mentioned? I think its a 7mm shaft on that boat. The ones I found are for a 4mm shaft. So does the turbo vee hold up ok to any serious power. If you dont mind my asking what is a surface drive. Did you put in new hardware for the motor shaft or did you keep stock? Thanks for the help.

i used a 4mm strait shaft on offshoreelectrics. then i used a graupner 4mm to 1/8 flex coupler on offshore or hobby-lobby.com. i used the 36mm on surface drive(this prop is way to big for subsurface drive) i got it under props on offshore in cf props in s series props and it is the 36mm one. this prop was however slightly too big so maybe a 1.4 pitch prop will be better(in 36mm) . surface drive or surface peircing drive i where you have half of the prop in the water and half of it out at all times, its hard to explain. i made my own rudder bracket out of brass tubing a solder. i can use the stock rudder that way. i tore out the reciever box and battery holder tray thing. i also tore out the motor mount and made a new one out of .062 aluminum. i tried this boat on 12cells on an electrifly t-600 and it hauled!! i used a jeti esc but you can use a cheaper intellispeed esc for 22$ at towerhobbies if you would like. the only draw back was the heat problem because of the large cell count. i could do short runs tho. it was uncontrollable!! the turbo vee prolly went 27-30 but i coulndt get it to that speed with out the boat flipping around.

Ok I can now confirm that 11.1v and a titan 550 motor are not a good way to go. I agree about the 8 cell comment and thought that was right on the edge too. I ran it for about 2-3 minutes and it was running pretty well. Decided to open the hatch and thats when all the smoke came out. The motor was burning hot. I put it away and waited till tonight. The titan still works like a champ, but I'll be running it on 7.4v from now on. All the guys that told me not to mod the turbo vee were right. This boat is just not meant to go super fast. The prop starts cavitating as the driveline is just not meant for this type of power. Even when the hull gets going quickly its not like my supervee that just jumps out of the water and starts really moving. this hull digs into the water and it slows the boat down. Thanks for all the advice.
