asupervee,
What's your hull constructed out of ?

The 29 does sound rather small for it.
having a small budget is something I've been familiar with over the years, although it's not such a problem at the moment.

Regarding your cracked steering nozzle, you can make another one. in the USA, there is a product I think you guys know as "shapelock" or "friendly" plastic. You heat it up in boiling water, or with a hair dryer on high, or a small burner, and just when it's getting almost too hot to handle, it goes clear and softens. Mould it, and when it cools, it's very similiar to nylon.

With your existing jet unit, you would need a lot of RPM to get much speed out of that boat, and there is an upper limit on useful RPM for any drive. That size is about right for a .25 glow engine, a .40 would be better. Brushless could get you more torque and speed than your 700bb motor, but you are on the right track looking for a bigger jet unit.

If you know any electricians or plumbers with a big diameter bending spring, you can get some conduit and bend it to shape, then get some ABS or PVC thick plastic sheet from a hobby shop shop, some solvent cement and glue on a flange at each end. You don't have to reduce the diameter of the outlet, but you do have to put a flow correcting stator in to stop the rotation of the water coming out. If you know how to braze, or if you can get silver solder and have a soldering iron, you can make a hub and stator vanes out of brass, and bend the tips, tap into them from the outside of the stator housing and hold them in place with short screws. You can tidy up your work with some car filler, and then run a low viscosity superglue over anything needing a strengthening skin. Use some smaller diameter PVC pipe in the centre, with brass bushing for your drive shaft, and solvent cement the tube inside the bent intake tube. cement some flanges onto the small pipe to help it bond to the larger pipe. Then, you can either mould your finished model (look up silicone rubber moulding products), it's a two part process, and easy to get wrong, or glassfibre around the outside to strengthen it up.

Or, work longer hours and save up for a bigger unit...

the hull is abs but has a fiberglass layer, i would love to work long hours but right now that isnt really an option for me, i think i'll just wait until next season to mess around with that build, for now im just going to put the electronics back in my super vee and play with that, the river bed i want to run the jet in is usually dry during the summer months. i cant see spending much time on the current jet pump, i dont think it will ever push this hull past 20 mph, the hull i have really isnt ideal for a jet drive system at all but it was availible at no cost, i could get the 40 mm from graupner but it's all plastic, that pump is in my price range but i dont know if it will end up being a waste cause it breaks cause it cant handle the power, there is the 49 mm from graupner that is for nitro or petrol engines or for bl with 700 watts or something like that, only problem with that is i think a 49 mm impeller will be too big for a stock super vee motor, not to mention its over $100 more than the 40 mm

It sounds heavy[&o]
I suggest you make a new steering nozzle yourself, and consider upgrading to Lithium Polymer (with charger (if you haven't already) Don't let them run down too low, they can get damaged like that. Lightening the boat would be your least cost option to increase it's speed I think, also, don't let it get too thick with paint, that also weighs a boat down.

the 29mm will push that hull just fine . but it needs to be in the range of no more then 5 lb . im suprised you didnt cook your sv esc when running it in the jet hull . i know you where running at least 50+ amps. be looking for some lipos . and what voltage are you running at know im gessing 14.4v

i have lipo, two 2s cells 2200 mah i run a 46 mm prop on my super v so i didnt think the jet drive would really phaze it. i have never messed around with molding of any sort, would need a lot of instruction to try and figure that one out, im not quite as crafty as some of you guys, though if i do keep the 29 mm im going to try and get the stock prop from my super vee to work for the jet drive impeller the only problem is that the impeller i have was threaded onto the shaft and the super vee prop uses a drive dog set up, if i put up any pictures they would be low quality from my cell phone

asupervee72 here is the link to cornwall boats if you need a replacement impeller. [link]http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/index.html[/link]Some of us have used it because we can't get replaement impellers without buying a whole new drive or making them. Anyway their prices are pretty decent and shipping is too.

Here are some pics of opening up the intake of the Graupner mini jet drive that I have on my knock off. I havn't been able to test it yet but hopefully in the next couple of days.

damfurst, can't smooth the back pickup a little? Looks like water will get stuck between the top and bottom lip.

It looks like the Berkeley jet that my friend has in his work shop, well his is painted blue. I'm not sure of the model number.

Man alive Sundogz that thing looks like a cast iron piggy bank. It says Berkley on the casting. Is that who it's made by??? They are a pump manufacturer and also real jet drive maker. But where it came from I have no clue. What was it driven with-a steam engine??

Headhunter I don't know if that will be a problem, but I can always fill it in if I need too. Just have to try and see.

You each get 1-1/2 points (it does kinda look like the money sorting mechanism from a vending machine). According to this ebay ad, it's the jet drive from a 68-69 Seadoo [link]http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VINTAGE-1968-SEADOO-PWC-BERKELEY-JET-DRIVE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1171Q7c66Q3 a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293 Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZit em150335084976QQitemZ150335084976QQptZPersonalQ5fW atercraftQ5fParts[/link]

Did ABC copy Graupner who copied Berkeley? Looks real familiar to me. Need a bigger boat! Sdg

That would be a really strange use for a jet drive, maybe it used the impeller to speed the coin sorting up

Must be a nice strong impeller if it can hit coins and survive LOL

The steering arm looks a bit weak though

Sundogz Any progress on the OM21 Jet?

I was wondering if there was and interest in a runner bottom. I have a project that I have been re thinking for you guys. A 21 inch drag runner bottom.

The transom height is 2 inches and the boat is a little over 6 inches wide. I also have a open t deck mold in process I want to make a ABS mold for this boat if you guys are interested.

Randy, glad to see you here! and funny you should ask:

I finally got started on the River Rapids boat. Turns out the transom of the OM21 is not a vertical 90 degrees – it slants outward a little. And after installing the (included) plywood transom with superglue (per instructions - epoxy won’t stick to this plastic) I found that space on the ABC Hobby jet where it goes through the transom was limited. So I decided to cut the transom (see pics) and angle it inward to match the jet. (Note: if there were sufficient interest in this concept, Randy (BBY) might be willing to alter/mod this as well - hint, hint!). I used pieces of scrap plastic (from the deck cutout) to finish the sides of the transom mod, and it worked out just fine - the plastic was the same thickness as the cuts I had made (with a 'hacksaw-blade-thin' cutting wheel).

What Th’? #328: I just discovered that there is a (removeable) cover on the ABC motor (what the cooling coils wrapped around) and I can’t figure out its purpose. Any ideas? Unless someone comes up with a doozey of a reason to leave it on, I’m going to leave it off, methinks. Sdg

Sundogz I could do that on the next one ordered. It would not be too hard to alter the mold to help fit the JD housing. I would not have release issues with a small part of the transom that was 90 degrees. I could round the top to match the JD housing
