RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
that's not really a cooling coil though, seems to be more of having water right against surface of motor. Let us know how that works out. good idea.

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
LOL, im from canada, the water is cold up here, i did seal up the esc for sure before i did that it was already in a chunk of large heatshrink, haha. as for the cooling coils on the motor, all 2 1/2 of them, yea i know, but at the time it was better than nothing, so far max temp after 40 min of running it at 14.8v was a wapping 88F so far no cooling issues. but thanks for the heads up, as for the paint job, thanks, again, it was all i had left over from painting my car body. as for the video, i want to dig a hole in the back yars, but the wife wont let me (yet!!!)

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
Hey there, need some help here guys! I want to spray the inside and the outside of my boat, which means I need to seperate the top from the bottom. I have tried with a screwdriver and knife but no sucess. Any suggestions on how to get them seperated? Cheers and any help would be appreciated

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
You really NEED to spray the inside of your hull? Why the need to separate? I sprayed my inside hull without splitting the halves, just use masking tape and cover anything you do not want hit with paint.

Sorry, forgot to mention it's a NQD Jet Sprint. The same boat as on the previous page sprayed in black/grey/silver etc. BIG22BIRD's boat. Cheers

big bird awesome video. Keep up the good work, boats look great and run awesome! As for splitting hull in half, have tried that too, no luck. Whatever glue they use really bonds the two halves together. For the amount of work to actually get it off I wouldn't bother. I think the only real way is dremeling but you would reduce the material for sure.[&o]

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
Hey there, I managed to get the hulls apart! Just a bit of dot 3 brake fluid and elbow grease to get the glue off. Although, the fluid made a few minor cracks around the edges but I am not too fussed as I will be bogging it all up! I am actually going to use a flat piece of plastic for the top rather than the normal top, just to make it easier to glue back on and maybe a bit lighter and faster, maybe. lol. I will take a few pics of the progress so you guys can see how I do it all etc. Cheers

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
I got brave and decided to start working on my NQD. Here are a couple pics on how I cut the deck out. That Chinese hot glue is pretty nasty stuff. I used one of my micro screw drivers to try and peel it out. Go slow and be patient or you will damage the hull.
On the batteries, I sounds like some people run two 2000mah LIPOS? Should I put something in the bottom of the hull to keep the batteries from getting too hot and damaging the plastic or does the water keep the batteries and hull cool enough?
BIG22BIRD - what type of goo did you use to seal the drive and servo into your boat? I am thinking about epoxy or Shoe-glue as recommended but I am always curious what others are using.
Thanks guys!

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
on the batterys i only run one. the only thing youll need is some belcroe to hold them in place the only time i had a problem with heat and the hull was when the esc shorted and melted a hole in the side

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
Hey guys, Going to work on my hull a bit today! Just thought I'll get some advice! Is there any good or bad points of having a flat top? eg putting a thin sheet of plastic over the base hull and using that as the top. Cheers

Paul I had been wanting to do this for a while, give er and let us know the results. Will be easier to seal off and reduce getting caught by branchs.

Ok, I have decided to give the flat top a go! Will go out and buy a thin piece of plastic for the top! Also, I am not fussed about branches because I use my boat in my backyard, (I live on a waterfront home) and there are no branches what so ever! I will take a few photos and post all of them up when finished! Pauly

Hey guys,
Here's some pics of my jet. It's not pretty yet. Just getting things in place and ready to rock and then I'll worry about cleaning some of it up. Haven't had time to get it in the pool yet.....but holy crap it just about jumped out of the tub earlier! ) Sweeeeeeet!
Have to say thanks to Quicksilver and Dragon for answering all the questions. This thing is turning out to be freakin awesome and has gone together pretty dang easy. One of the easiest conversions I've done. Partially in fact to all the questions you guys helped me out with. Thanks again. I'll post more when I re-sticker with a custom scheme and get it in the water!

Yeah, so far so good! The only thing I'm playing with and taking a chance on is that little skag thing in front of the intake. I'm thinking that's either going to help or kill the intake on the hull. Think it might help guide water into the intake on turns maybe or just create so much air that it cavitates the heck out of things. We'll see. For now I'll leave it and see what happens.

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
I'm interested in building a jet-drive to put in a surfboard. I don't expect to use it to stand up and plane, just to assist instead of having to paddle, so low speed thrust is what I'm after, not maximum speed. I've seen the very powerful lightweight electric motors that are available now, and am most interested in the big cheap HXT outrunners that do over 2kw or even the biggest 6.5kw model.
My issues are what kind of rpms do I need and what diameter of impeller? Would a pair of the larger Graupner units with the 40mm impellers be sufficient, or do I need to fabricate something larger?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
John
