Default SV27 Hop up (need suggestions)

I bought 2 SV27's as I think they are a blast for the money. We (my son and I) recently dug a lake on my property that has turned into a haven for a bunch of rookie boat racers.
Last weekend we had 12 friends over, each with a boat or two and the racing was incredible. My problem is this: My son did something (he refuses to tell me) to make his SV27 ungodly fast. Now, I have decided to take my blue SV27 and make it the baddest on the lake. I am willing to change motors (I read a thread about using a Ammo motor) or more cells, props, etc. to show my son that this 60 year old dad can still kick butt racing. Our family has raced Super Late Models for years and the urge is still there to go really fast. I am open to ideas and would appreciate any suggestions you may have. I'm a big fan of this forum and read it daily. So how do I make my SV27 the fastest on the planet?

honestly a 9L with 4s lipo and hydra 120 would decimate your sons boat, and quite a few others, take a look at www.unitedhobbies.com

He is referring to the size of the motor. There is S L and XL. the L is the middle of the bunch but longer than the standard S motor that comes in the supervee. Go to the inrunner brushless motor section and check out the L size motors.

BB Mods recommedation will make it just about as fast as youever would want to go with a SuperVee.
www.offshoreelectrics.com has the motor and Hydra 120. The Hydra is currently on sale for 180.

I'm interested in seeing the pond that you had created.

I live in Florida. All you need to do is dig what ever size pond you want....it will rain it full and usually you will find a spring...it's about 60 yards long and 40 yards wide...the dirt was sold to pay for the digging. I'll post a pic of my boat passing my son's. *LOL*

The way property taxes and insurance is going up in Florida........almost everything you do is a money lost venture. Which L motor do I need? Is one brand better than another? I ordered 4s lipos today and will order a motor and ESC as soon as I figure out which one. This is going to be fun to see the look on his face. I also ordered the left side turn fin and the adjustable trim tabs. This race WILL be recorded!!

you can use a feigao or a hacker,
the hacker is better for sure But you can get away with a feiago for fun running. The only real difference i have found between the two is how long they last. in terms of years. My friend runs a 7L fieago in a H and M viper for n2 hydro and it has won MANY races

The link BB mods gave you is the motor to buy

A+ choice on the batts and charger, make sure to get a balancer within 15 cycles on the batt's use to insure long life.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. It's great to come to a place with so many willing to help an old man (LOL) wear out his kid. Now all I need to do is get a motor and ESC on order. I followed posted advice on skuffing the bottom of the hull. I used velcro to hold the 2s lipo's in place, have pool noodles for flotation, sealed the antenna hole, and found some blue duct tape for the canopy. If it flips I'm hoping it will float until the rescue boat arrives. ( 8' john boat with trolling motor and built in cooler). Do you have a suggestion for the cooling system? The stock unit works well as there is a steady stream of water out the side and it has got warm but never hot. Geez......I can't wait.

Make sure to get some video of her running, and also you might want to order a replacement shaft, the stockers have been known to break at the stub shaft.

My plan is to test several props to see which one suits me the best. I will most likely change as the guys change the bouys. We sometimes run a short course and then change to a longer one when everyone gets really brave. The new lake has high banks which keeps the wind almost completely out. Last weekend we had a 4 foot gator in the lake that didn't much care for the several nitro boats buzzing him. He was gone Sunday morning when I went to help my son test his latest nitro twin. It's a good thing we don't have any neighbors.....a twin with nice long chambers sounds really nasty. Well....ordered up a Nemesis 9L , Hydra 120, left side turn fin, 4s lipo's, new charger, extra cable, 4 props, and adjustable trim tabs....I'm glad my wife loves me *LOL*. My charge card is hotter than an ESC with no water in it. Oh well....video's I promise.....thanks again

octura x640 will be the prop you settle on more then likely, cooler temps with more speed then you will be able to use.

Sounds like the pond at 60 yds is only slightly longer than a 125 foot race course. Try to keep it in the pond.

*LOL* If the lake is too small.....I can always make it longer. It's amazing how construction companies will dig a lake just for the dirt. It's cheaper for them to dig it than buy it. Hmmm....I have 40 acres...

I haven't received anything yet. Parts should arrive by the end of the week. I am working out of town so they have to be sent from home...maybe by Friday.

I haven't got it yet so I can't answer that question. I'm sure someone reading this will know.

Yes, it must be armed before the motor works. A feature like this should absolutely be mandatory for all ESC's.
