Thanks

here are a few pics of it in the water.

I also think the turning fins are to close to the bottom of the boat and that might be
making it harder to turn when going slow, being very wet.

I'm going to make a couple new fins, I'll take some pics. hopfuly have them done before friday.

it hasn't got the top on it

How do you like the speed master stuff?

i ran the exact strut and rudder on a kyosho jet stream 800 with a OS .18 CV-R. Boat had some get up to it, was easily in the 40-45mph zone. scary for a jetstream. but the hull wasnt stock.

i ran the same turn fins you had before you made the ones you have now.
i ended up cutting off that bottom flat area and just running the fin it self.

i had alot of good runs with that boat.
i've still got the hull but i parted out the parts

Well I have nothing to compare the Speed master stuff with, but the quality is top notch.

Your not talking about cutting the fins I have on the boat now, are you?

The only things I'm concerned with is the fact that I can't turn when going slow.

and it hops in the water?

I have some video I'll try to upload it.

You need to adjust your trim tabs down in small increments and that will help with the "hopping" aka porpoising.

I will play with the trim tabs, thanks.

I also extended the rudder bracket so it is farther out I'm hoping this will let the boat turn better, as it doesn't turn very well going left.

I have a couple pics I'll post them.

I think the wash from the rudder when turning left is going right into the prop and causing it to not turn very well.

you can see I have moved it out 1.5 inches

I have a converted villain and I use a speedmaster strut. My rudder extends beyond the prop and is also about 1" 1/4 deeper than the prop. I can't tell how deep yours is in the picture but your rudder depth may be the cause of your turning problem. Also I agree with your thought that your rudder is directing its wash right into your prop. Get that wash past the prop.

That extention of rudder support looks great! Rudder depth i couldn't tell from pictures but Mr. K. is right. The thing that bothers me is your boat is big and the rudder is not that wide, so if you lower to 1 3/8"with the measurement coming from the bottom of strut. Now prop wash shouldn't be a problem as the front edge of rudder will be even with drive dog. Now if you were using a high rpm motor, i would run strut further back so prop would have clean water to get a good bite of water. I make my own hardware out of brass and have a flat blade for a rudder and my strut is also of brass but have 2 sizes, one inside the other. I also use nylon insert to the lenght of 1 1/4" and wear is great. Now for lowering the rudder, just get a new nipple and get piano wire and make a z on the servo end . I see the socket in the picture; and it has a screw into socket; the piano wire will solder and you can bend a loop in solder area and screw socket on. Now you won't have to move servo but just bend piano wire down till you get it is level or even shot out to rudder, don't forget the nipple with grease. Don't reply, no need, i do this all the time and works great, not fancy but functional!

The rudder is at least an inch below the prop.

Here are some new pics with the rudder on.

I think this will work better.

I will let everyone know tommorow.

here are a couple more pics,

I measured and the rudder is 1 5/8 inch lower from the center of the prop.

It turns very well when on plane, just not when going slow and left.

I'm trying to get some video on to you tube but it won't let me upload

My sound is fine.

I forgot to let everyone know what I thought about the extended rudder.

So it is better but not alot, if going slow and turning right was 10/10 and turning left was probably 1.5/10.

Now going slow and turning right is still 10/10 but turning left is 6/10, so a big improvement.

At planeing speed right turn is 10/10 but left turn is 8/10 same as before, so no change.

I think next time I will try an inline rudder.

here are some pics.

What do you think about the new look.
