crircuit breaker or fuses
hi
i have a large rc boat with two esc,s and two large motors each has a 12 volt 7 amp gel cell ,the guy at the auto part store told me to use a circuit breaker 30 amp for each esc so if it goes on the pond you just wait to reset it self ,they are reset type sae type 1 auto reset 12v DC, or should i stay with the glass fuses that i been using i only blew it onces when it had some weeds on the prop so no trouble with the set up ,i want to be sure i wouldnt hurt the esc,s with the curcuit breakers thanks maxs

i would go with the circuit breaker . works just as good as fuse . best part you dont have to prplace it every time something happens . or have to go retreave it in the middle of the lake

Sounds like a winner. Modern circuit breakers are more accurate to the posted current then earlier ones. If it poped you'd know to come in slow and easy until you fixed the root cause. Only concern is that the breaker may need to see that current for a longer period than the equivelant fuse. Maybe not. I bet our resident EE will have somthing to say about this (BB Moss)

All kidding aside hes a very knowledgeable FE guy as are several others in these forums. As for me Im your typical blue blooded american trying like heck to learn the secrets of fast electrics.

I am not sure I wold take advice from the auto parts store about a boat set up. Why do you think you need circuit protection?? What type of boat is it?/ Sounds like a big scale boat if you have gel cells in it.
Unless you are pushing things to the limit I cannot see why any type of circuit protect is needed. I certainly have never seen any in any of the Fast Electric race boats, maybe scale is different.

Breakers are decent for the cause, but forgive me on this subject, i prefer to use car audio grade fuse blocks for high amperage protection, The ANL style fuse/blocks work out quite nice in the marine world. Make sure to spray the contacts and fuse contacts down with a little corrosion-X

I agree with BB MoDss. Reason Castle esc's on older 55 Griffin says to use 35 amp auto fuses but they range up to 30 amps so you won't have to fork over some more $$$$$$ to buy another esc. Esc's are not CHEAP any more.
