I just bought a new bout the other day and got a smoken deal on it, right now im running a 17 turn moter with a old car esc the question is how do u guys run up to tweelve batteries (or two six cell packs ) in a run, do u us a esc or the servo with the on off switch with a Y harness or what kind of esc are u running?
Other question is how hot should the motor get after a run still trying to figure out hoe to make the motor water cooled as the motor mount is kinda a cheep mout and has no room for a water jacket? here are some pics.
any help would be great thanks,
Jeremy

It looks like you will need to do some work just to beable to put water cooling on it, without water cooling I can't see this motor taking much more than 8.4v unless your doing lotsa breaks to let the motor cool down at higher voltage.
If motor is too hot to touch or is melting through your hull you may have found the limit.
voltage isn't just limited by how good the esc is, it is also limited by what the motor can take. What make and model is that?
Ivan.

iIts a old team orion 17 turn , the esc is a dynomite tazer 15, the kit also came with a servo on off type switch but i was not sure on what setup to go with , plus the kit also came with a stock 550 motor taht someone on another site sad was a 16t , dumb question is that fast than the orion being its a lower turn? also i have a 14v titan 550 motor lying around but not sure on what setup will work best any ideas or thought would be great.
As for the water cooling my only idea would be to make a new motor mount and run a coil style water jacket, if any other ideas on that would really helpfull?

There is no way itll handle 12 cells at all. dont try it. If you want to try it, get a 8.4v+ 600motor and do short runs and check for heat a lot.

the reason why i ask is what is the safest most realiable setup posible (that I have) that won't over heat and still go fast, once I get my water cooling setup done? The titan is a 24t i just found out from tower hobbies.

I dont know thats why i was asking about the esc setup or the servo on off setup I not really a big fan of that one but if it helps me go fast than im up for it. Which one do u think will work best?

Well ok; first take motor and sp control out. Next make a motor mount out of aluminuum .064 thousands. Just cut the aluminuum into a strip 3/4" wide and 3" long but make 2 of them. Next measure how far it is from just above the retain bolts for motor which probably are 3mm x 10mm and go down about 1 1/2" and then bend both strips so they go back under the motor. I hope you fathom what i'm typing. If you have a dremel cut down about 1/2" to the width of the 3mm bolt and attach both strips to the motor and tighten. I see your to close to the transom. Move motor toward the bow about 1". Purchase a 05-540 cooling coil or make one out of 5/32" aluminuum 3' tubing wrapped around a " D " battery. Now after you have put the coiling coil on 05-540 motor, place motor so it angles down enough so cable will slide into coupler with ease. I see you have room for just this type of setup. I see plastic bottom of hull which should be covered with 1/16" ply to make a more solid base for motor mount to adhere to. I'd use 5 minute epozy under ply and over aluminuum strips but make sure the cable slides into coupler with ease. The esc or sp control is to close to motor and should be toward the bow. Just use ply and epozy under sp control but make sure wires are long enough for your setup. I don't know if you will use this or not, depends on you but i see it the easiest way to cool motor and have a solid motor system. Alignment is the key to all setups, no matter what kind of boat you have. Good Luck!

I think the highest i can go on the esc is 8.4 which is what a 7 cell , so i could go with the esc and a 7 cell pack with the titan would be the best way, but if i run a 6 cell with the orion 12t and a water cooling setup would that be faster?

Hi
Looks like a Kyosho Jet arrow to me. Even with the motor mount you now have you can water cool the brush hoods. This is very effective and maybe enough . If not ,then the new motor mount and cooling coil will also help greatly . With enough cooling you could run all you want with little heat. You cannot continue to use the stock prop with that motor. You have a large boat for a single 05 motor. It could take some time to get everything right. n.h.schmidt
