Propeller basics?
Hi
I''m planning to upgrade a boat from Brushed to Brushless motors and also to upgrade the prop.
Should I upgrade to a smaller diameter prop for stability and reliability?
My logic is that that the because of the increase in power (RPM) the smaller prop will provide more torque (with less direct contact with water) and also more stability.
A larger prop will put extra stress to the engine causing the boat to be more unstable....
Am I right? Can someone please give some props basics and explanations?
Thanks a lot.
JC

RE: Propeller basics?
You are close to having it. You do need a smaller prop with higher rpm, usually. The smaller prop is usually called for to avoid overheating and burning out the motor . Also the magnets on the BL motor will demagnetize if run too hot for very long. A smaller prop does not always make the boat more stable. Actually there is more efficiency in the bigger props. That is why many boats used to use gear drives ,so they could use bigger props. This can be also carried too far and not produce more speed. Now with very powerful BL motors all this has changed. n.h.schmidt
