Default Running Gear for racing 1/72 PT boats?

Hey, folks! Me and a few buddies are building some 1/72 scale PT Boats, Schnell Boats, and Motor Torpedo Boats for racing. Our usual hobby is RC Model Warship Combat, but we've decided to build a few "go-fast" boats with a military theme for use on the days when it's too cold to swim for sunken battleships. The problem is, we don't have a whole lot of experience in building "go-fast" ships.

So, here's my question. Where can I get motors, batteries, and props for small, high-speed boats? Would I be better off gathering parts individually, or ripping the guts from a RTR kit? I would like to run two shafts, if possible, counter-rotating. I am also hoping to assemble my S-boat on a smaller budget than what my usual warships cost.
