position for twin drives for cat?
Hello Everyone,
I'm just curious about something that I've been noticing recently. When someone does a twin drive system w/a cat, each one sticks out of each sponson. What about having both drives between the sponsons?

For one thing keeping the drives and therefore the motors in the sponsons allows the tunnel to remain shallower. If you put the drives in the tunnel then it must be deeper.

dayton to clarify, you mean that the hull must have a deeper tunnel to compensate for the drives taking up tunnel volume, due to the drive lines running through the tunnel and taking up space?
Either way, if I did a cat, they'd be on the sponsons

It's a tough thing to word. The tunnel can be higher off the water if the motors are in the sponsons. Is that better. I'm building a single motor tunnel and the height difference between the tunnel and the bottom of the sponsons is only 3/4 inch and it's going to be tight squeezing the motor in. The black jack has a very shallow step and is alot deeper than what I'm building, but has much more internal clearance.
