2008 World's Fastest SV 27 Competition (educated guesses needed)
Rumrunner's racing will be having a 2008 World's Fastest SV 27 Competition. What motor/setup will it take to be FAST. Anybody have any interesting ideas?

How about a SAW setup, lol. Go to the Lehner motors home website and they have some pretty crazy hi ampers.

NEU 1515/1y
6s3p 6600mah lipos stuffed in the bow
V940 prop
hydra 240
Machine the angle out of the stinger mounting block, reinforce the entire hull, pray it stays right side up...

I have that exact motor 1515 1y. Why couldn't I just use two 3s1p 5000mah packs but mounted more forward in their stock location for correct balance? Then I could mount the motor/mount more forward for a straiter angle on prop driveshaft. FUN !

Propper balance at what speed. I bet the boat that wins sees 65+ if the water and wind cooperate.

Have you guys seen the other thread about this on rumrunnerracing? Where the guy cut an inch out of the freeboard to lower the center of gravity. The entire hull is almost an inch shorter.
Also, his motor was relocated all the way to the back of the hull. He stopped posting about it when he started choosing hardware.
I don't pretend to know how to set up a boat like those guys, but some of that stuff looked pretty advanced.

Just google "World's Fastest SV27", it's in the results.
I'd post a link, but I'm not sure if it's allowed.

On topic links are allowed.
Sounds good, although I'd use 4 - 3s 4500mAh 30C Enerland cells as 6s2p.

...too bad it's already over with.
I think Top speed in the unlimited class was 49.9 on a 2-way pass.
I do believe I had a shot at beating that mark if I would've gone to GA...and since then have been told that essentially I lied about my claims of 50+ in oval trim...
...anyone who raced me in Pmono last year knows how fast my SV can go. Most difficult boat to drive in my current fleet though.
We're talking about having a similar event here on the West Coast in the Fall.

It really should of been called GA's fastest SV competition as anyone who lives a state away would probably not make the drive. If they wanted it to be the Worlds fastest SV event, they should have got more clubs involved that meet what ever requirements they had in place.
My point holds true in that 49.9mph for the SV in there "unlimited" is not a world class speed record.

and seeing as though no competitors outside the US competed, I'd call it the USA's fastest SV record, not the "World's" fatsets SV record.
just my $0.02

Yes, you could have posted a link to the RRR site. It has to be directly to the thread that you're talking about only, not the whole site. They are also cool because their site doesn't require membership to view their threads.
Sounds like they should have called it "Georgia's Fastest Super-Vee 27".

Ok, then

There is the link to that forum thread, you do need to be a member of the forums to see the pictures posted by the guy modding his hull.
Also, he just stopped posting suddenly, when the crazy changes to the hull were just getting interesting.

All righty then, you have ot drive to Valdosta to prove that you've got the World's Fastest Super-Vee? I guess that these guys haven't been near a gas pump lately then.
If I or anyone else wanted to build one it can be done at a legitimate SAW record trial anywhere that they're held. It might not be legal in a class but the person would have better proof of the speed on a recognized course.
I didn't go far enough into the site to see if the sectioned hull is legit or if someone could take the hatch off and put a sheet of plastic in its place.

I didn't say I accepted (or even read) the rules of that competition, to be honest I didn't really care, I just got sucked in once the guy started chopping up his hull and completely recreating the boat.
It looked pretty innovative, and was definitely more interesting than the same old "bigger motor, higher amp ESC and lots more battery power" mantra I typically see.
I know all those things will make the boat faster, but this guy seemed to be onto something more advanced, to add higher speed stability to the hull.
Did it work? Who knows?

That guy is still an active member on the Rumrunnerracing web site. I just sent him PM asking outcome of his chopped SV27, maybe he will answer soon.

he was within the rules. I agree with stinger. There's only so much you can do. I like it. It's not like he made it wider or longer or changed the bottom angle. I looks like the boat was designed that way. Not sure if I see any advantage of moving the motor unless it was a clearance thing.
