soldering wires on batteries
Hello Everyone
Recently in my Brushless Sport 40 hydro, the tamiyas melted that were on the batteries. I don't know why I really wanted to use tamiyas, but now its time for new connectors. I'm about to solder some deans connectors onto the packs, but are there any precautions before soldering? Cuz i've never soldered onto batteries before.

RE: soldering wires on batteries
Needless to say: DO NOT MAKE WIRES TOUCH!
Solder one at the time! Cut one and solder that one. Cut the other and follow!
Remember to slide heat shrink before you solder!
Do not solder near flammable stuff! Yeah your carpet too!
Get yourself a pair of holders (harbour freight) so you dont have to hold the wires with your hands! and If you do USE HEAT RESISTANT gloves!
Good luck,
Genettico

There is a video on You Tube on soldering deans connectors. You can probably do a search to find it.
I think that I found it through OSE.

RE: soldering wires on batteries
If you only have to replace the Tamiya's on the wires, it's a piece of cake, follow the instructions in posts above.
If you need to solder thicker wires directly on the batteries, pay attention:
You'll need a big soldering iron, 100W minimum, to be able to work quick, quick because the cells don't like to be 'cooked'...
Sand the poles and can where you need to solder, whipe clean with alcohol or acetone and pre-tin these spots at once (before greasy fingers can spoil the cleaned surface).
Use resin core solder, no acidic soldering water or paste, which will corrode your cells.
Prepare the leads, pre tin one end and solder on the connectors, cover them with shrinking tube and put a piece of silicone tubing over the exposed male.(Yes, shorting these bullet style connectors gives a bang!)
Fixate the cell you'll be working on, hold the lead in place and heat both cell and lead untill the solder flows, hold the joint in place with a screwdriver tip and remove the soldering iron.
Work fast, specially on the plus pole.
Regards, Jan.
