Does the SV27 have reverse?

Nope. The SV absolutely does not have it.

Edited to correct facts.

You can add it simply by changing the esc to one with reverse. Problem is the flex drive. From what I understand turning it the opposite way with enough pressure will break(unwind) the flex.

So, what brushless esc could I switch to w/ reverse?

Well I'll ask the obvious question boomchank7. Why do you want reverse in a fast electric boat?
Take heed of Headhunter23's answer. You will not only break the flex cable but you will most likeky loose the prop too.
I use these reversing ESCs on ducted fans on my rescue boat if you really need to do this. They are rated to 50A but are not water cooled. You'll have to add that yourself.

You will also need this programming card.

Have a good think about it though.

Cooling isn't too much of an issue providing you can either cut/drill aluminum.

Don't ask me why they are so expensive. All that's changed is probably a little programming and a couple transistors. You'll see more and more esc's with reverse in the future and prices will come down. There is a way of modifiying your current esc to add reverse. Essentially you would need a third channel to activate 4 relays, which would close and switch two of the brushless leads, then you would have reverse. Would require finding the right relays to take amps, buying a really small chip and adding software to a little chip that would activate the relays on/off.:

Would be pretty easy to do I think if ya follow directions and are a bit technically adept and have access to software burner or know someone who does. Still I think the flaw is flex drive, which is too bad, I've read people ravin that flex is the shi*, but I'm starting to disagree if the cable can't do reverse properly. I too wanted reverse for my new surface drive boat that I just made. I think the shaft needs to be converted to wire drive for this to be reasonable, cause juicing on flex in reverse one time might be all it takes to wreck cable and they aren't cheap and would be a pita to replace.

Umm...yeah, why?

The Hammer EP I bought for my surface drive conversion had a brushed motor and ESC with reverse, I thought it was such a cute little feature. Useless, but cute.

I guess if you really need to go backwards, just reverse two of the three wires from the motor to the ESC. You'll give up all forward motion, but you will have reverse. Plenty of it!

Have you seen some of the youtube videos of guys submarining their boats then popping them out full throttle 6-7ft. I would love to do that! Also reverse would be handy on tight courses, specially if ya put it in weeds, right doby?

reverse on any boat is not a good idea unless your boats waterline is very high you are asking for water to get in(water is very dynamic and will get in) with cable drives that would be even worse as the cable is wound one way and depending on your motor and batts, even a small blip can do you in but i dont see a problem with wire drives. reverse is best with retrival boats we know that but not for are FE boats. In FE cars reverse is not even allowed if you have it you have to disable it if you want to race. think of a FE car going in reverse out of a spin out or rut and having the entire field smash into you because of it? same with FE boats everyones turning right and you joe blow are reversing because you over compensated, not pretty
