RE: converting 1/8 gas to electric
I have a 1/8 Llumar (same as the Bud) and it can be done.
Here are some links

It is going to be expensive, so be prepared for that!
If you have any questions, PM me and we can talk.

RE: converting 1/8 gas to electric
40,000 rpm is way too high for a target RPM. And unless you can keep the weight down the 1527 series would not be my first choice. For gas hull conversions most of us are using the 2215 or 2230 Neu motors running 10S2P. The Schulze 40.160 ESC is the ESC of choice. Yes, you can do it other ways. But the above has proven to be solid and reliable.
FWIW I fried two 1527/1.5Y motors in an 18 pound 44-inch Avenger cat. Too much hull, not enough motor. That hull now runs happily on a 2215/2Y and 10S2P.
Definitely go with the 8mm shaft and use 0.25-inch cable.
Here's a video of the Avenger with the 1527/1.5Y. This was with a x452 prop. This was motor #1. It lasted 2 more runs, then POOF!!
