That's pretty much the best ESC you can get for that current rating. Boat looks good. ESC can only deliver what the batts can give and the motor can take though. You should pick your motor and bats first. Then get the ESC that can handle the combo.

Read the sticky that ryan put together at the top. I will answer alot of questions and direct you which specifics to ask. The popular steup that alot of people seem to be arriving at lately is brushless 540 size 8XL motor on 4s with the ESC that you had mentioned. Another setup you may consider is the UL-1 package. You can buy it as a unit for a pretty good price. Also calls for 4S. Both have pushed hytros to 50mph.

How big is the boat going to be when you are done ?

Is not 1/8 scale going to be going to be 1/3 bigger than the UL boat ?

You might be asking alot to be running a 4S motor in something that big

I'm not so much worried about the motor being able to push it as I am the transoms being able to handle the stress of the rudder and skid fin brackets in a corner. That soft balsa can't handle that kind of load by it's self. What do you plan to beef those areas up with, or have you even thought about it?

If the boat is that big you will want at least 6S2P or 8S2P to run it

I had a 36" boat and a 1200KV motor on 6S2P

You could try this motor on 6S2P

http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=fei-580-L

It still all comes down to how much $$$ you have to spend

If you have to buy lipos and chargers also

The costs will add up fast

$500
I do not know if that is going to be enough cause you could blow that much on lipos and chargers

Big boats are fun but cost a load of $$ That is why I sold my bigger boat that took the 6S2P lipos

I can run 3 smaller (26 to 32" ) boats on the same number of lipos it took that one boat

I used this one
200amps
I have run it on 2S2P and 6S2P
I took mine apart and waterproofed it and added water cooling to one and just a bigger heat sink to the other

$52 not bad deal

sorry about the motor/esc/4S suggestions. I did not realize that boat was that big. Guess I've got lights on the brain.

eboat. Is your motor laying level with the bottom? IF so that would mean you are running an "S" bend in the stuffing tube/flex shaft. It's hard to tell from teh photo. If so have you done that before and are there any drawbacks? Sorry I don't mean to jack a good thread.
