Default test day success's and failures

had both my cat and hydro on the water today

the hydro ran brilliant on 4s with an XL motor, just some fine tuning but was excellent, however the cat did'nt fair so well, on 4s (this was suggested) it was horrid and i left my 6s pack at home so down the local lake tomorow for more tuning,i think the hydro is there but the cat still needs to be run with a 6s

sorry i did'nt video but did'nt have the help as my boys just kept p*****g around

if it wont run properly on 4s then 6s isnt going to fix it.
to be blunt your cat hull is a toy boat that came with twin motors, i doubt it was even designed to get on plane yet alone take the power of a 8xl.
but its your gear if you think a cheap esc can take the amp draw of a 8xl on 6s then give it a shot.
just so you know FE calc puts a 8xl on 6s with a 38mm prop at around 150 amps.

i apologise if i have offended you ozzie, i value everyones input, i just don't know which way to go as you have success with your setup but others are telling me otherwise, if people who were right all along and i wreck my boat then i will say so,for me its something i need to know, where the limits are, your right about the hull, its only toy grade and i'm seriously thinking of upgrading to a far better hull

again, i apologise

dont take me wrong on the toy grade thing nick, i have been there as well and iam sure there is a lot of guys may look at my hulls as crap compared to there's.
i try and buy decent handling hulls but my running gear is towards the lower end of the market, fiegao, turnigy, mystery etc.
i have spent the last few years pushing some of this gear till it breaks to find its limits.
i am by no means a expert but i can tell you what will work and what more than likely not as i have run numerous xl motors from 4s-6s ranging from 6xl-13xl
i just dont want to see you blow your gear up on some one saying a 8xl on 6s is fine, it may well work for 2 short passes but thats about it.
in saying that i just dont think that hull could perform with that kind of power.
if you can i would save the gear and put it in some thing like a hotr 32" cat hull

thats what i'm going to do, will buy the hor hull, i've helped people get theres running and they've had success's, at least i have my hydro to play with for time being but will do that, i had a keda 12xl in the cat but its better in my hydro, will be swapping to 2 blade for my hull as there was some prop walk

sorted then, new hull, same setup

with the strudder set i have now, the mounting plate measures 50mm long by 40mm high, i dont think it will fit on the transom of the HOR hull so some modifying will need to be done, i don't want to buy a new strudder set

i'm just wondering if the shaft has been slipping in the motor coupling because it was'nt tight enough, i need to by some 10mm open ended spanners

that may work if it will bolt to the transom extension on the hotr cat.the strut seems to be a 2 way deal, one way its a stinger for a mono turn it around and its a cat/hydro strut as you may have seen on F1s thread else were

yep, he's got the same one, it was originaly designed for mono's, i have found a 36" cat else where for £170 (hull only) which i'm going to get, also i had a loose bullet on the pos wire of the speedo in my so they have both been replaced and added 1" of 12 gauge wire aswell

One thing you could have tried is a bigger prop?
some times the smaller props just don't cut it with bigger hulls

you do realize a 36" hull will need a different power setup again than what you currently have

yes will be a very nice setup in a hotr cat hull.
if you can spare the $$$ these are great strut/rudders from ose,it also has a proper 3/16 shaft not a 4mm one.http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=ose-80085

the link dont work ozzie mate, i dont want to buy another strudder set but will make the one on the cat fit, even if it means modifying the hull, the mount plate measures 50mm long x 40mm high

now i see why your cat didnt run very well, thats a stinger strut designed for a mono not a cat.

it can be turned around to use as normal facing strut, it was originally designed as a stinger but i have run into a few problems when it comes to turning it all around, if someone knows how to remove the bush's without wrecking them then i can turn it all around
