@verado - You need lipo capable chargers to charge lipo batts. Most decent lipo chargers now have the balance charging feature - a must when using lipo batts.
If you have questions about the SV27, I would highly suggest you read up on the forum specifically for that boat.

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
Im really interested in getting one of these after watching and reading i just want to get one more and more. Im trying to get one and order the hobbyking 2.4ghz trigger style radio with it all in one shipment but those are both back ordered. Not to mention i would also like to order the corona 929mg servo with it once again back ordered. Has anyone ran the turnigy 1000 mah 25-35c battery or the 1300? Im wondering if the burst rating is too big? Im just hoping all of those things will be in stock soon.

I have a brand new Small Bolt, been in the water once. I'd sell it shipped for $120 with a brand new octura prop. PM me if interested.
The boat is perfect, not a scratch!

I ordered the 1300 size battery.
I ran a 1000 mah 3s 15C and it was to much for the battery, about killed it.
I think 1300 mah would work. To be safe I ordered the 1500 mah 20C 3S packs... Should be a happy mix of a smaller/lighter pack and ample run time.
I just cant believe people are stuffing the 2200mah in there...

Do you think that would fit?
Dimensions of the linked battery are: 105 x 34 x 19mm

The 2200 DOES fit, but damn its tight. Its big and its HEAVY.
I couldnt get my boat on plane with it, period. It did more of a submarine action. Switched to the lighter battery and bam, she took right off.
So yes it will fit, but weight might be a concern.
Once I get my 1500 I will weigh it and let you know.

1500 vs 2200
2200 in Small Bolt
1500 in Small Bolt
The 1500 is the same width and height of the 2200, the length is different.
It wont fit sideways in the hull with the Velcro under it. I may take the Velcro off for a better fit more towards the end of the rear sponsons. Weight doesnt seem to bad.
I think the 1300 battery would be a better choice though.

I have two 1300mAh and I wouldn't recommend them because the rated amp draw isn't high enough on those batteries.

What C rating?
Need a logger to see what kind of amps this thing is pulling.

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
for a 1300mAh, you would need at C rating of at least 23.07 (see below)
because: 23.07C * 1.3mAh = 30 Amps which is what the ESC for the small bolt is listed as on HK. I have not been able to test this because I don't have an ammeter.
<meta charset="utf-8" />
Nope, I use 2.2 (i assume you mean 2.2Ah (2200mAh)) almost every time I run the boat, they work just fine.

I think the 2.2 is only useable once you upgrade to a hotter motor.

So did you mount your 2.2 like basstronics?
Wonder why yours is fine and basstronics Bolt isn't responding well to the bigger battery?Hmmmmm . . .

If you just got your bolt take this advice to the bank.
Take it apart and silicone it all up before running it. Silicone the water exit and entry point well. Redo the hardware.
Also another thing I noticed is the weak resin/glass over the stuffing tube inside the hull. I broke mine and have to reglass it...

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
Yes, I have actually started taking it apart. I like to do QC and enjoy rebuilding them as much as running them
I am already looking at replacing the flexshaft &strut (same as minicat), steering linkand servo.
I am also considering a hot motor, turn fin and yes, adding another layer of FG in the bottomhull.
But maybe I should run it first so I knbow which will need attention. I am just waiting to order batts and props.
Not really in a hurry as I am still waiting for the pond water to rise so that I can also run my bigger boats. [&:]

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
If I was to consider any mods its just one. Replacing the prop shaft, flex and coupler with a Jeff Wohlt wire drive.
Getting rid of all that rotational weight/drag of that flex shaft helps a ton. Not to mention its instant power. Dont have to wait for the flex shaft to compress.
The stock strut is fine. Why replace it? What advantages does the minicat have over this strut?
Another thing. I reversed my push rod boot so its inside the hull. Makes it look cleaner.

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
I have been slowly reassembling this boat.
Tonight I installed a antenna mast thingy. Drilled the hole out 1/4" and fitted an Aeromarine unit.
I also noticed the rudder had a rather thick flat spot. So I sharpened the rudder and polished it up with 600 grit sandpaper.
Hoping to get into the water Friday night maybe?
