RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

What is the link to your ebay auction?

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

I don't know about your motor, but just by looking at your pics the best upgrade you can do right now is get rid of the micro switch and pick up a good marine esc. Me personally, I like the RC-Hydros units, but there are many great brands out there.

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

Not bad at all for the price, but man do they charge for shipping! For a stepped fiberglass hull, and what looks like quality hardware (rudder/bracket, trims, surface drive), it seems like it could be a nice, fun boat. With an upgraded motor and esc it looks like it might be a real screamer!

Let us know how she runs when you get it!

like i said i got it for a hell of a price 135 shipped with insurance i allready got the esc a jeti 600 navy just need a good motor i thaught about getting a 540 rc car motor like a 11t or 13t quad but if you guys have any other sugestions iam all ears:D

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

My only comment is that I'm pretty sure that this hull is NOT fiber glass regardless of what the auction says. It may have a layer of fiber glass as reinforcement to the inside of the rear compartment but I highly doubt the hull is 100% fiberglass. I am guessing ABS with some internal FG reinforcement. Still should be a fun boat once you put a real motor and ESC in it.

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

Well maybee your right maybee your wrong when i get the hull i will post pics thats a lot better to see if its just the rear thats fg or the whole hull but i have a question about the motor situation will the castlecreations mamba compition x package work for this boat or its not enough power the motor is rated at 8000Kv and the esc is rated at 25 amps continious and 50 amps surge i have one in my micro rs4 and it flies but i dont know if it will be good in this case.

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

I've got the same ESC and it can handle pretty much whatever you throw at it (up to 60 amps). Anyway, regarding motors, you definately want to stay away from car motors as they can't handle the torque that boats require. Go to offshoreelectrics.com and look at the Graupner line of motors.

Your boat probably doesn't have enough room inside to run a big motor on lots of cells judging by the pics. Maybe put in a Speed 600bb 8.4v and run it on 7 cells. Not sure where you would put multiple battery packs so that may not be an option.

Let us know how it runs out of the box.:D

this is the esc iam getting http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1 and iam thinking about getting 540 8L 3,072 RPM per Volt* brushless motor let me know if this is a good setup?

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

theres no way that hull can handle 80mph. even if you could get it going that fast it would be torn to shreds.

Hey you never know do you own one of these boats? iam guessing you dont so it might be able to with the right setup and equipment we will see only time will tell.

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

idk about brushless on the water. ive seen a video of a brushless traxxas blast and it only went about 20-25mph. my cen wave shark with a 775 size motor on 12 cells goes 22mph. so im guessing you might be able to get 30mph outta that hull if you are lucky.

Bombers_410 09-11-2005 11:47 AM

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

but thats still wicked fast for a boat that size on the water
that boat is just under 2 feet long

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

My seven cell monohulls also do about 75 MPH.

In the backseat of the car....

The design may allow 80 mph, but with a single motor, it will be impossible to drive...

Even with a brushless set-up the 80mph will remain wishfull thinking.

Apart from that, it's an attractive boat and will run very nice on 7 cells and a 600 motor.

Have fun!

Regards, Jan.

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

ok iam loking at the boat it says it has a Prop: D35xP1.3 will this prop be fine or is there another prop i should get? O and the prop is a kyosho brand

pompebled 09-12-2005 02:28 PM

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

Hi Q,

What prop to use depends on the motor, number of cells (voltage) and how you set-up the boat.

The red Kyosho prop is not too bad, it's plastic and will flex under load.

If you have the boat running, you ca experiment with carbon props from the Graupner K-series, 34,5, 36 and 37,5mm.
These props are much stiffer and will be more efficient.

Have you decided on a motor yet?

Please post some pictures of the boat, details would be nice.

Regards, Jan.

RE: Star-Jet Hull by Yamaha,

Even with a 600 speed motor and 7 cells I doubt you will hit 20 mph. My boat (turbo Vee2) is lighter and shorter and went about 20 mph with a 600 and 7 cells. I put in a AYK 540R motor from fun rc boats (19 turn and it's plenty fast now for it's size. Now it goes around 20-22 mph and still decent run times.

Looks like you've got the brushells system installed in one of them. How does it run? Handle? Take vids!
